Rolling Out Shaykh Mansur al-Shami...

SNIPPET: "Readers, we have a glitch in the al-Qaida Matrix. This is a 30 minute audio by, Shaykh Mansur al-Shami, entitled, “Advice to the People of Jihad.”

I’ve seen his name a bunch over the past several years but only in writing, when he pens articles for the magazines, The Vanguards of Khorasan and Al-Sumud. There is also an “Abu Mansur al-Shami” whose poetry has been quoted by Bin Laden himself and whose work appears in the jihadist magazines. I don’t know if they are one-in-the-same. If so, the below list is incomplete as I have not included his writings there.

The fact that Mansur al-Shami is now releasing a major audio under As-Sahab auspices means that AQ has started their official roll-out of him."

SNIPPET: "Since al-Shami’s previous writings have all looked to early Islamic history for lessons that can be applied today, it seems as if the reason that they would push him out now, is because AQ feels as if they need some more firepower on the religious front – defending their actions in an early Islamic framework."

SNIPPET: "This is a pretty major move in my read and signals a kick of the Al-Qaida strategy can down the proverbial road."

This is strictly an audio lecture by Shaykh Mansour al-Shami. I honestly don’t remember the last time As-Sahab Media released something in audio-only format. In addition, this appears to be another new Mujahid Shaykh that appeared on the scene (the other being Shaykh Khalid bin Abdul Rahman al-Husainan).

“Jordanian al Qaeda operative killed in US airstrike in Pakistan”
By BILL ROGGIO
January 12, 2010 6:49 AM

SNIPPET: “An al Qaeda operative from Jordan was killed during a recent US airstrike in Pakistan’s Taliban-controlled tribal agency of North Waziristan,

Mansur al Shami, a longtime jihadi whose real name is Mahmud Mahdi Zeidan, was confirmed to have been killed in a statement released on the Al Faloja and Shamukh al Islam jihadist web forums, according to the SITE Institute.

“The martyrdom of Mahmud Mahdi Zeidan... on the soil of Pakistan, the land of the diligent and of the mujahedeen is confirmed,” the statement read.

Shami’s family was also contacted by a member of al Qaeda who was present during the strike. “A man called me on Sunday and said my brother died in the US attack,” Shami’s brother Omar told AFP. “He spoke bad Arabic and said he escaped the attack. I think he is a Pakistani.””
