Seattle Mayor to Ban Guns on City Property
AZCONSERVATIVE ^ | 14 June 2008 | John Semmens

Posted on 06/16/2008 4:35:09 PM PDT by John Semmens

Seattle mayor Greg Nickels (D) announced that henceforth weapons will be banned from all city-owned property—as a safety measure. The ban is believed to have been inspired by a shooting last month that injured three people at Seattle Center.

Nickels allowed that criminals aren’t likely to abide by the new rules, but contended, nonetheless, that safety would be enhanced because “thugs won’t have to exert as much force to get what they want. A robber won’t have to shoot if he knows his victim is unarmed. So, some money may change hands, but there’ll be no need for violence. Even an occasional murder is more tolerable than shootouts that endanger much larger numbers of innocent bystanders.”

To help set an example, police will also be unarmed. “How can we expect citizens to forego violence if, by arming our officers, we project the City’s willingness to engage in it?” Nickels asked. “Eventually, the individual bent on mayhem will see that he is the ‘odd-man-out.’ The social stigma alone will work toward peaceful change.”

Presidential candidate Senator Obama hailed Nickels’ plan as an “audacious experiment that encourages hope for a better world” and said he considers it a “potential model for an Obama Administration.”

That’s great. Outlaw guns and only criminals will have them. So when one comes to city hall to shoot someone, not even the police will be able to stop them?

That has got to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

If he figures out how to tax the monetary “exchange” he may save his city from immediate bankrupcy. He may even be able to encourage the “exchanges” to boost city revenue. Looks like he has identified a way to encourage this exchange. Next he needs to figure out how to tax it.

I think he gets around it by calling it a “rule” instead of a law. And while you can’t be arrested for a firearm violation - you can be charged with trespassing.

Well that’s just OK. Perhaps someone can slice Mr. Nickels’ goobers off whilst effecting one of those ‘money changing hands’ routines. I’m sure that he’d feel ever so much better then.

Oh, wait. He doesn’t have any goobers.

Never mind.

... well, as long as we're talking audacious, so is shoving chili peppers up yer butt, if all you can do is spout counterproductive platitudes up the media's skirts, while the good folk of the nation are dying in public. Asshats.
