Jim 'n Nicks Bar-B-Q: You Can Smell Our Butts for Miles

Tell the truth. Is Jim 'n Nicks slogan now in your top five of barbecue restaurant slogans? I would bet number one, hands down.

After eating at Jim 'n Nick's, the food and service will most certainly be on the top of your list. We stopped in the Prattville, Alabama store on our way south from Tuscaloosa, AL to our home in Gainesville, FL. Bear in mind, we had enjoyed the finest ribs in the world the day before from my favorite barbecue joint, Archibald's, in Tuscaloosa. I had been to the fountain of sauce, smoke, and flavor. There was no way but down after Archibald's, but Jim 'n Nicks passed my barbecue joint tests with flying colors.

Archibald’s? I don’t get why that is considered so great. I was underwhelmed. Jim and Nicks is by far the best Ribs I have EVER had, and I’ve had quite a few.

I don’t guess that ya have ever been to Memphis, Tenn. One of the few shining lights in our city is any kind of BBQ that you an think of.

YUM YUM YUM!

I like Rudy's old slogan: “The worst BBQ in Texas”. I also love their BBQ.

Brisket, Ribs, Pulled Pork, Sausage, Chicken, Turkey, even Rainbow Trout w/original Rudy's “Sause” (or “Sissy Sause” for the delicate palette) It’s all good, and served by weight in old time Texas roadhouse “meat-market” style.

That slogan is hands down one of the top....

Have one locally: Butcher’s Steakhouse - you can’t beat our meat.

“You can’t beat our meat”.

Almost as good as the best meat in town.

You would lose. I lived in Newport, AR for a few years, and visited Memphis often. My son went to U of M, and lived there about 10 years. He just recently moved to Tuscaloosa,

Memphis has some good barbecue. The first time I ate at Rumboogie on Beale STreet, the dry ribs were excellent. After that, not so much. My son, who worked on Beale Street said that they would reheat the ribs, so that would ecplain it.

Neely’s was heaven. Most of the rest that I tried ranged from acceptable to very good.

Not one compares with Archibald’s, IMO. Although, I went to Archibald’s the week after they ran a spot about it on national TV during the halftime show of an Alabama game. there were so many people t here that they wouldn’t sell sauce without the ribs or pork. so I bought a rib sandwich. Good, but undercooked. They were pushing them thrugh too fast.

The Commissary is definitely my favorite Memphis BBQ stop. Yum! Also love The Barbeque Shop and Central BBQ.

Not a fan of Neely’s. Rendevous is pretty good, but some of the waiters their annoy me to no end.

You have any other recommendations?

Went to The Salt Lick in Driftwood Texas last night. By far the best I've ever had.

I didn't climb to the top of the food chain to be a vegetarian!

p.s. If you ever get back to Memphis, try the Gilt Edge cafe about 30 miles north of Memphis, just a mile or two from the river. They are out in the middle of a cotton patch, but people come from all over to eat.

Hmm, Angeles Crest Highway, I guess that you are in California? The only good BBQ that I ever had in that state was Chris and Pitts.

I don’t know about KC. I live in the Memphis area.

There is a really good place in Shawnee, Okla. about 20 miles from OK City. Van’s pig stand. For west of the Mississippi, very good.

I like the way they cook it, carmelized on the outside, chewy and mosit in the middle. NOt smoked, Texas style, but on an open pit.

And the sauce is the best I ever wrapped my mouth around.

But everybody is entitled to their own opinion, especially about barbecue.
