CBS: No good news Posted Jul 31st 2007 10:05AM by Douglas McIntyre Filed under: Earnings reports, Bad news, Press releases, CBS Corp 'B' (CBS)
CBS (NYSE:CBS) today announced results for the second quarter that were dreadful.
Net income plunged 48% to $404 million, or 55 cents per share, versus $781.7 million, or $1.02 per share, a year earlier. Revenue fell 3% to $3.4 billion.
Operating income before depreciation and amortization ("OIBDA") of $859.4 million and operating income of $749.9 million for the second quarter of 2007 remained flat with $858.9 million and $750.3 million, respectively, for the same prior-year period.
On an adjusted basis, excluding tax benefits from iincome tax settlements in both years and the pre- tax gain and related tax effect of station divestitures, net earnings from continuing operations increased 9% to $393.1 million, or 54 cents. Analysts had expected a profit of 51 cents per share on revenue of $3.42 billion..
Nothing to write home about.
Where is Mel Karamzin when you need him?

I think you are right about that. The News Division could certainly pull down a 40% share just by being "fair and balanced".
There is a tremendous demand for family-appropriate programming. Instead of trying to out-do the other networks in the race to the bottom, the first network that works the cleaner side of the street is going to realize some immediate gains.
Take that, FoxNews.
The time for consolidation and downsizing of the MSM has arrived.
They deserve this: when you are stupid enough to replace Dan Rather with Katie Whatsits, you too stupid to run a major network. They are now finding that out.
Wherever did you get that picture? Love it.
Or, a sitcom with a traditional values family and no homosexual propaganda!
Yeah, I guees I was shootin’ for the moon. I would be happy not to have that indoctrination message constantly foisted upon me.
When did it become acceptable for bird flipping photos to be posted on FR?
That photo was only shocking/funny the first time it was posted because it revealed the flipper’s personality. Now it reveals FR’s personality.
This is exactly why families don’t watch CBS.
As with “Air America”, so goes CBS. Liberals are now working on forcing liberal talk radio, in the interest of “fairness”, down Americas throat. A state run CBS is what Hillary would want. Funded by the US Government. IF she wins in ‘08, don’t be surprised if that is what is presented as a possibility.
You have a point - but the reason these guys are haemorraghing money is because they are losing readers and advertisers. It's like an honest opinion poll about what people think of the left.
And also, of course, it's hysterical! That's why we can't get enough of these threads.
Katie Couric gets to be the one that shuts off the lights at CBS News.
I find that poetic justice.
Meanwhile, Katie can't even get lonely lesbians to watch. CBS Sports has nothing without the NFL and even then, insists on trotting out the leftist/racist James Brown and the incredibly annoying Boomer Esiason.
And now in today's news...
Call the WAAAAAHMBULACE!
Better yet - call the undertaker and tell him CBS is approaching the end.
Love It!
Well at least Chelsea is probably selling short on the MSM via her hedge fund job.

Ping on the interface with current events.
"Katie Couric Has Viewer Drawing Power," giggle fey, limp-wristed CBS executives . . . Power? NOT !
Oops! They already tried that tactic. Her turgid ratings are in the toilet as well.
I guess they could fire Couric and save about $ 10 million for the stockholders. Sniffle . . .
Big media bites the dust. SeeBS is total Bovine Squat: 'News as entertainment, entertainment as news.' In truth, that really means vapid, uninspired programming. Idiot talking heads.
Pretty faces pretend to be news readers for big bucks in the Big Apple. LOL, LOL!
