AP ALERT

Posted on 02/21/2006 12:32:20 PM PST by Brian Mosely

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.

Could this be in exchange for their support when we take out Iran?

"Except he is doing no such thing. Our ports remain US ports. It's a management deal. Port Security remains US Customs just like before."

Port security as EVERYONE in the whole world now knows is less than acceptable given that only 5% of cargo is scrutinized. That leaves "management" to pick up the slack.

"The company that has the contract now is not American either and the company that has won this contract already has multi contracts around the world in port management. And NASA buys its rocket fuel from a French company so what is the big deal."

We are not at war with the French, but we are at war with Arab muslim terrorists, whom the government of Dubai openly and proudly support. And the company that has the contract now is from GB, America's greatest and closest ally on earth.

I think if you look into this thing a little more deeply you'll be appalled too. The company that gets this job will be working hand-in-hand with the U.S. Coast Guard security operations, and hence will be aware of our national port security procedures. They will be responsible for the hiring of civilian port security personnel and dock workers. This is not good.

Probably none. As far as I know, the UAE is not considered a state sponsor of terror. Want to make that analysis with where we're sending our oil money? I guarantee those numbers are far worse.

Click on the link I posted, and then come back and tell me what you think Congress will propose as an alternative to the acquisition by the UAE company.

Based on the cast of characters who have been complaining the loudest about this deal, I am fully confident that Congress will propose absolutely NOTHING as an alternative.

Since Pres. Bush forced Israel to allow Hamas to come to power, I no longer trust his judgment.

This is another case in point.

If your understanding of this deal is equal to the profundity of your witticisms, I understand why you feel as you do.

"Wow, is Bush a complete moron or what?"

Whenever I hear him speak in public and attempt to complete a sentence without stumbling...I think so.

Ever heard of the city of Dubai? Look it up.

Is this the same Dubai where their Royal Family invited Michael Jackson to live in one of their palaces after he beat pedophilia and child molestation charges in the U.S.? THAT DUBAI?

It really shocked me when Rush went spinning on this, especially because he earlier took the other view, the view most of us are taking here. All of this causes me to sit back, wonder what's really going on, and be inclined to cut Bush some slack. It's just possible he's planning some kind of secret military operation against Iran where the UAE is an essential player. If so, he can't talk about it until it's happened. Rush's spinning could also be explained by the fact that Bush let him in on the operation in confidence.

I'm just going to sit back and see what happens for now. If my guess turns out to be wrong, I'll join the crowd attacking Bush.

The UAE is a federation of seven INDEPENDENT Emirates: Abu Dhabi, Ajmān, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Qaiwain.

Six out of the seven are fairly repressive. Dubai, on the other hand, is a totally different story.

Don't judge Dubai by the actions of the UAE.

He's gonna lose this one, and hand the Dems a jewel.

Exactly. He has overplayed his hand. GOP leaders are jumping onboard the no-sale side, and most conservative pundits too. He better do some much-needed spin control in private with the GOP leaders.

That leaves "management" to pick up the slack.

And what if some members of the new management are al Qaeda sympathizers who can tell terrorists where the security holes are?

If they were the only ones that wanted to do it, what else could we do? /sarc

If he does his very first veto to keep the UAE in control of US ports, the symbolism will be breathtaking. This has as much potential to shatter the GOP coalition as did Harriet Miers... perhaps more.

This whole episode has really shown the Dems to be opportuinsts. Either they are against racial profiling, or they are not.

The dems have always been opportunist .. and hypocrites

It will be a cold day in hell before I ever go to them for help in defending our country
