"Except he is doing no such thing. Our ports remain US ports. It's a management deal. Port Security remains US Customs just like before."

Port security as EVERYONE in the whole world now knows is less than acceptable given that only 5% of cargo is scrutinized. That leaves "management" to pick up the slack.

And what if some members of the new management are al Qaeda sympathizers who can tell terrorists where the security holes are?

If you really want to get into it, Port Security is a joke period. 2% of containers get inspected. TWO PERCENT. Whether or not it's an American, or British or UAE compant managing the port is moot. The containers are still loaded in foreign ports.

Its physically impossible to inspect every container coming to the US, and frankly way too late if a bomb does get loaded on a ship, and is detonated before it is even subject to a 2% chance of being inspected.

The only good and sane defense in this case is a good offense, which is just another reason why Islamist terrorism needs to be taken on overseas.

5% is looked at here because that is what makes economic sense. You couldn't inspect 100%, we wouldn't pay for the goods shipped if we spent that much money. And it wouldn't be cost-effective.

5% was a Kerry talking point, can't believe conservatives are repeating it now as if it has some rational meaning.

Most inspection takes place when containers are loaded -- and a majority is inspected by, horror of horrers, THE UAE DP World company.
