ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.
One world order! In my opinion, our country is/has been gradually sold off for many years--it is just more in-your-face. Think it will wake Americans up? I predict there will be no borders in our country. Wait til the Chinese start immigrating. Will they assimilate or want special treatment?
I guess then it's also racism to not want our fighter planes to be sold to China?
Un-freaking-believable.
Chill out people, the UAE is an important partner when it comes to the war on terror. Here's what Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and General Peter Pace have to say about UAE:
At the Pentagon, the UAE was praised as an important strategic military partner by both Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Rumsfeld told that a process was in place and "the process worked."
"Nothing changes with respect to security under the contract. The Coast Guard is in charge of security, not the corporation," Rumsfeld said.
"We all deal with the U.A.E. on a regular basis," he added. "It's a country that's been involved in the global war on terror ... a country (with which) we have very close military relations."
Pace said that "military cooperation is superb" with the U.A.E.
He also said the WHOLE arab world is watching to see how the UAE is treated about this deal.
We're all curious about that. I have no answer. British company held the sale.
"Will they assimilate or want special treatment?"
Just special prices on drab green woolen wear.
JMO, there seems to be a "family feud", for a lack of a better term, between the saudi's and the UAE.
The saudi's kicked the US military out, while the UAE is welcoming to the US military.
BTW, guess who is a major stockholder in Fox news, a saudi prince, and Fox news has been pushing this story, big time.
Do you watch 24? The wife seemed crazy but knoew something was up before anyone else. They tried to alienate her, yet she was right!
The way this White House has been going since January 2005 leaves both the right and the left with severe misgivings about just what is going on.
Show my ignorance? Anyone who thinks DHS is soley responsible for national security is ignorant. Anyone who thinks Dubai is our ally is ignorant. Bush should be quite proud of himself for bringing Hilary Clinton side-by-side with what used to be his base.
Geez, it would be nice to be optimistic but I haven't seen anything to be optimistic about yet.
I tend to agree with you and am not jumping on the chance to "jump on the 'Bushbots'." If the ports are anything like the aircraft manufacturing plants, etc. for Lockheed, General Dynamics and the rest, they are owned by the US Government and are 'leased' to the operators and manufacturers. For example, the Lockheed Plant in Georgia is Air Force Plant 6 leased by LH for umpteen years. I'm thinking this is something similar.
If the Government is still going to inspect the cargo and the employees are mostly American, I don't see a problem. Many people on this thread are confusing Saudi with UAE which is really talking about different things and using it as an excuse to complain about Bush...
Just to update you a little:
On Sunday September 30, 2005 the P&O was in takeover talks with Dubai Ports World, a company owned by the government of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. A bidding war commenced when Singapore's PSA International made a £3.5 billion offer, which Dubai Ports World then topped with a bid of £3.9bn (US$7bn) [3]. (Eventually) the PSA withdrew, and in February 2006 shareholders voted in favour of the offer from Dubai. [4]. The Arab-owned company will become the world's third largest ports operator . ping to 1008 LOL
"Chill out people, the UAE is an important partner when it comes to the war on terror."
That's all well and good, but still does not give them the right to operate the port entries to this country. The Brits shouldn't have had that right either.
It's not about bidding on any deal. It's about the buyout of P&O by DPW. DPW will assume all of P&O's leases.
No American company bid enough to buy P&O.
Rush started out years ago on the right track. In his book "the way things ought to be" he talked about the many aspects that this country was under attack. Multiculturalism was a whole chapter in the book. At some point while Clinton was in office he changed his toon. He started to water down his words and his principles. Most of what he stood for in the book has nothing to do with his values today. I don't know if it was the drugs, the big money, or the desire to be a main stream country club republican that changed him. But one thing is for sure. All of his talent for the cause was lost.
Great, so we are blackmailed into doing whatever the Arab street wants.
Is this the same "Arab World" that cheered 9/11, beheads innocent people, detonates nail bombs on buses and riots over cartoons?
