"Apparently, there is more to this than meets the eye."
yeah, its called forgetting about the swords that have met the throats. Go to Michael Savage's website and get a view. Won't win against Bareback Mounting at the Oscar's but might place in the documentary category.

Bush won't veto a spending bill...but this one he will? It's one thing for him to support the port switchover - it's another to threated to use his veto pen for the very first time over the matter. Makes one wonder what the hell is going on here.

There is no change in the workers who run this on a day-to-day basis. As I dnderstand it, the only thing that's changed is ownership.
With only 4% of incoming cargo inspected, and much of it already from the Mid-East, does it really matter that a UAE firm owns this rather than a Brit firm?

That butler's pantry just off the oval office probably smells a little better now, too.

Shhhhh....don't tell him we are at war.

There seems to be a whole lot of opinion and not a lot of facts here yet. Before people continue making decisions without facts should we at least not consider getting answers to some of the following questions:
Does foreign ownership equate to foreign workers when the ports are on US soil?
Have there been stipulations made by DHS that employees be US citizens?
Have there been assurances of more detectors/detection methods (approved by DHS) being utilized as part of the purchase agreement?
Who already runs/owns some of the other major US ports?
Why are there no or few US companies performing these operations? Why is the British company that is selling this business the last British company performing this service?
If we don't know the answers to some of the above questions are we not sounding more like democrats reacting simply out of emotion before knowing facts! I agree, this has hit an immediate gag reflex on me too, but I want to know the details before deciding. Since it is on US soil and the company operating the port is NOT responsible for security, it may actually be a case of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer.

Unfortunately, the lamestream press will jump on this with 4 hoofs. "Unfortunately", it's not just the lamestream press. Looks like it's just W and Jimmy by themselves on this one.

I've been thinking... maybe he has another vendor in mind, and wants the UAE proposal to be killed so this other company can take over.... Halliburton.
Just a thought.

Somebody stands to get something special out of this. There's a backroom deal contingent on this going through. I'd bet on it.

I think you might be right. I was initially outraged over this (and even fired off an e-mail to the WH), but upon further reflection (and listening to Rush), i think the president knows what he is doing and why he is doing it. He isn't Bill Clinton after all. I think the UAE is helping us more than we know or should know and this could be all part of the fight against terrorism.
