Hi, gang,
I was a regular contributor to the Kerry Online Forum and am now a regular contributor to the Common Ground Common Sense forum. I am a liberal, but I'll be the first to admit, I don't have all the answers. In fact, many of hte questions that matter to me probably matter to you too. I'm concerned with questions about how to tame power, whether governmental or corporate. I'm concern with the rule of law and how we can get the powerful to take it seriously. I'm concerned with the erosion of civil liberties. And yes, I am concerned about some things you may associate with liberalism--social safety nets and taking care of those who fall through the institutional cracks.
I'm here because I think agreement is overrated and that critics can be your best friends: they keep you from getting sloppy or careless. At any rate, I think there are things I can learn from you. I don't expect you are all agreed on anything--I expect there is a lot of diversity of opinion here. If you are interested in what I have said over at Common Ground Common Sense, I'm using the same handle both places, and you should feel free to come over and look around.
Anyway, I'm new here. Anybody care to give me a tour?
I detect the possibility that you are a 'seeker' and if you hear things that make sense, you may become a believer. I hope we can all provide you with our opinions and answers in a way that will allow you to find a comfort zone of truth that you apparently seek. Regarding your post where you stated "When corporations get too powerful, one gets anticompetitive behavior.", I have a few questions in return;
-Are you equally concerned about abuse of power among unions, charities, universities, school boards, local government, main stream media organizations, etc.
-If yes, do you feel that liberal individuals or liberal media give equal attention and fervor towards those organizations?
-Can you please give specific examples of corporate abuse and anti-competitive behavior so we can understand what you are concerned about?
Conservatives also work as employees, managers, execs, owners. We dislike abuse and corruption in business. We like competition. So these concerns you have may ring hollow to us unless they are even handed and with specific examples.
Thanks in advance for the reply.
My apologies. I skimmed the thread but must have missed it.
But you're right. I would like to know why it was brought up if it isn't either an immediate issue or a longterm concern.
Since before they forced you to sort and recycle your garbage.
Like the frog in water brought to boil, people just don't see the creeping incursions into their freedom that population growth causes.
People accept it as a given, for example, that you need a license to hunt for food and that there should be a bag limit on game.
Or that good land should be so scarce that it costs money.
It's already starting that we have to pay for the air we breathe (by paying for pollution control).
I would respectfully request we allow rogerv to be allowed to post his thoughts and to remain a member until such time (if ever) he becomes disrespectful, trollish or disses us or our beliefs in anyway. Healthy, mutually respectful sharing of thoughts may help us to explain our positions without the bias found in the MSM.
Who knows, rogerv may find out he shares many of the same ideals as we do.
Thank you for your consideration.
You are, of course, still welcome, even after 4 years.
Why do you worry about power when it is nothing more than the residue of excellence? Those that excel get to lead. Would you have losers lead?
The great thing about wishing folks "Merry Christmas," is that it blesses those who honor Christ, and bugs those who don't!
Ho Ho Ho

Liberals love poetry
Here is a poem that might help you on why we are all basically in agreement.
Liberals
Feelings and emotions, ends justify the means, wanting big government in charge of everything to create artificial self-esteem.
Political correctness and freedom of speech, an oxymoron of indoctrinated that liberals love to teach.
Dividing society between race, religion, gender and economic class. They pretend to help but they are only a pain in the ass.
Being friends with socialists over seas is more important to them than terrorism at home. They still think we went to war with Iraq all by ourselves and all alone.
According to liberals only the UN should take on any world affairs. I guess they didnt get that resolution 1441 by the UN was ignored without any cares.
Liberals like to control Academia, Unions, Media and Hollywood to manipulate. They think Americans dont know it is our Constitution they're wishing to eradicate.
They love to tax they want us to pay for their cause; they appoint judges rather than congress to implement new laws.
To them responsibility and accountability should be a thing of the past. Their favorite President presented lying as virtue and to his wife the right wing was very vast.
Supporting the military doesnt seem to be liberals thing. Freedom isnt free and I as an American understand and respect this is what my protectors bring.
Children need role models and they shouldnt be raised by a pop culture. Innocence shouldnt be taken by a dysfunctional societal vulture.
I believe in a two party system and liberals right to exist. I also understand that every morning I wake up there is a threat to our country and I feel safe as long as I am pissed
That's pretty cool.... I'm surprised I'm not more conservative....
If you engage in destructive behavior as doing crack, lose your job, that's your fault and not the fault of me and every other taxpayer in this country. Liberals and Conservatives are both compassionate, they just have different ways of going about it. Liberals believe government is the answer. Conservatives believe in personal responsibility.
I agree. But the flip side is that some regulations are designed specifically to eliminate competition and reward political allies. Often it can be difficult to tell which is which. One quick test you can use with a high degree of confidence is when the stated intent of the regulation to "protect" the children, elderly or the "disadvantaged" and opponents are deemed greedy, insensitive and heartless --- beware. When I see seasoned and ambitious career politicans like Spitzer bleeding those compassion lines, my BS detector pegs in the red zone.
Nice to see you Vim. Will take the test when I get a chance, let you know where I come out.
Welcome aboard, Horus! No, the newbie Freeper is not ZOTTED. I expect he won't be ZOTTED, too.
He is replying big time here.
