.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

October turned my maples leaves to gold;
The most are gone now; here and there one lingers.
Soon these will slip from out the twigs weak hold,
Like coins between a dying misers fingers.

Happy October Poetry & Potpourri FRiends!
Jen
October
SHE
Gone are the Spring and Summer from the year; And from our lives as well. May we not, dear, In our October find serene delights To take the place of ardent summer nights? Not striving to retain a dying season, Or imitate its pleasures, but with reason Accepting Autumn's quiet, briefer day Of calm content, not seeking to be gay?
HE
Gone are the Spring and Summer; yet behold The radiant woods, supreme in red and gold And russet colours; and the wind harp plays A louder song than in the April days. Our lives need not be colourless or sober Because of Autumn. Emulate October, Who will not let the ageing years grow dull, But keep its love by being beautiful.
Poems of Problems. By Ella Wheeler Wilcox London : Gay and Hancock, 1914.

Autumn: the most powerful time of year. To me, it brings excitement and melancholy at the same time. More, MORE poems about Fall, please. And thank you.
To: leadpenny

Thanks for coming by the Belv.
I'm sure we can find more autumn poems, so stayed tuned.

Are you still hiding from Billie? I think she will be busy for awhile so come over here.
Memories in the Dark
He took a flower from her garden
And a button from her shirt,
He put them on the backseat of his car.
And they followed him down the road away from her,
Like memories in the dark, like memories in the dark.
He took a slow road north with the button in his pocket,
Then a fast road west while the flower turned to dust.
He let the dark Pacific wash his hot pale body,
He let the salty water flow along his face. >BR? He let the button float away like memories in the dark.

Leaf Blankets
Irene B. Crofoot
Leaves are falling, soft as snowflakes,
Red and yellow, gold and brown;
The breeze laughs gaily in the treetops,
Shaking all the color down.
Leaves are covering the gardens
As my blanket covers me.
When cold winter comes, the flowers
Will be warm as warm can be.

Autumn Leaves
Marilyn Helmer
Wind blows
and fills the skies
with gold and yellow
butterflies
which flit to earth
with skips and hops
to dance and twirl
like spinning tops.
The last one dips
in a puddle to float
like a single scarlet
sailing boat.

My coffee will do fine.
But the coffee pot is battling with me.
Darksheare's coffee:
In standard 12 cup drip percolator, fill pot to 6 cup mark.
(Add to reservoir obviously)
In standard drip perc filter, with standard size coffee scoop, fill filter with 6 heaping scoops of grinds.
(Medium roast works best.)
Add pinch of salt to the filter. (Enough to evenly cover the surface of a dime with one single layer of salt.)
Brew.
Recirculate if necessary (Or maybe suicidal I am told)
Add sugar (important) and dairy creamer (Not Coffeemate or Creamora, unless you want to experience the 'military Odark 30 buzz'.)
I recommend NOT recirculating it on the first run.
I alsorecommend putting the salt in, as it is important.
(For fun, or possibly masochistic experiments, brew one pot without the pinch of salt, and one with. The salt keeps it from tasting 'burned'.)

Thanks for the coffee recipe, Darks. I have never added salt to coffee; something I need to try.

The Rope
There were 11 people hanging onto a rope that came down from a plane. Ten were blonde, and one was a brunette.
They all decided that one person should get off because if they didn't, the rope would break and everyone would die. No one could decide who should go, so finally the brunette said, "I'll get off."
After a really touching speech from the brunette about how she would get off, all of the blondes started clapping.
Problem solved.

Autumn Bird Song
Over the housetops,
Over the trees,
Winging their way
In a stiff fall breeze.
A flock of birds
Is flying along
Southward, for winter,
Singing a song. Singing a song
They all like to sing,
"We'll see you again
When it's spring, spring, spring."
