"We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail."......President George W. Bush "If not us, who? And if not now, when?".....President Ronald Reagan "This kind of war, you've gotta believe in what you're fighting for."......John Wayne as Colonel Madden (Back to Bataan)
I have discoved a major inconsistency in my thinking...not about politics or capitalism.
This is more in the philosophical area...post-modernism, deconstructionism and that sort of thing.
Is there a FR person that comes to mind as someone who could help me sort this out.
I should be able to think of someone, but am coming up empty.
Have fun lysander. The State Fair! You going over to Albany?
Two words: Miss Marple
Molly, thanks for asking. She is doing ok; she had a blast watching the two kids yesterday. Earlier in the week, her knees was bothering her from the damp weather, but that just gave me a reason to remind her she should be taking her Celebrex as the Dr. Ordered...the pain has subsided considerably, and she's looking for to going to the bank and Walmart today.
Bit - Hang in there. We're pulling for you.
Raven - Have you found a better place to stay temporarily, like a Residence Inn??
REMEMBER THE TRADE CENTER!!
AMERICAS WAR ON TERROR Day 355
The news as reported in The Washington Times:
[Note All links go to The Washington Times website.]
[Note also Don't blame Chair for mistakes, all Bitwhacker's fault, yadda, yadda, yadda...]
1. Major League Baseball averted a strike by its players yesterday when negotiators agreed to calls for vastly increased revenue sharing among clubs, the return of a luxury tax on the payrolls of high-spending teams, no elimination of teams through 2006 and steroid-testing for players.
[And by NOT striking, MLB gives in to the obvious: that not only did the fans NOT CARE, but that a strike this year would mean the end of MLB itself. (And can Bud Selig be any more of a pompous ass of a public speaker?)]
2. Japan's prime minister will make an unprecedented visit to North Korea next month, meeting the leader of the secretive communist nation in hopes of healing one of Asia's deepest historic rifts.
[Well, good luck, but the Japanese are universally hated since the 30's....]
Japan, North Korea arrange summit
3. Zimbabwe's government is using a policy of "selective starvation" to punish political opponents, enrich supporters and ensure a victory in local elections next month, according to an American researcher.
[Mugabe is a maniac who should be tried for crimes against humanity...]
Mugabe withholds food from opponents
4. Prince George's County police say law enforcement forces along the East Coast are assisting in a manhunt for James Ramiah Logan, wanted in the fatal shootings of two Prince George's County Sheriff's deputies.
[Sorry to say, but I hope this cop-killer saves the state a trial, if ya know what I mean...and on an editorial note, didja know the author of this article went the entire column without mentioning in what state the crime occurred???? I think it is Maryland....Unbelievable...]
Killing of 2 deputies spurs manhunt
5. The World Trade Organization yesterday authorized the European Union to slap $4 billion in tariffs on U.S. exports over a corporate tax break that violates international rules, putting pressure on Congress to repeal the law.
[Just great -- I didn't know trade rules extended to corporate taxes, or that the EU was our fourth branch of gov't....]
U.S. faces $4 billion in tariffs
6. Maryland will play Notre Dame at 8 p.m. today in the Kickoff Classic, the most anticipated opener for Maryland in almost 20 years, after a dramatic turnaround last year from 14 years of disappointing football teams.
[I am not a big Terps fan, but I just HATE Notre Dame, and it would be nice to ruin Regis Philbin's weekend ;-)....]
Terrapin fans hope for luck of the Irish
We shall not rest until we have cut a swath 60-miles wide through the entire left - taking all that is before us with us as we go. We shall leave nothing to the enemy that may be of value to him. We shall show him that he may count on nothing and will be able to keep nothing, not his spirit, not his soul, not that upon which he shall feed. We shall not cease until the moment we have rent through their entire land and have arrived at the sea, with our glorious victory upon us.

Nita, I would love to confront hillary. Saw her and her sidekick a few years ago when hubby and I freeped them.
As many of you already know, the President is featured in the October Issue of Runner's World (which for some reason I've never understood about magazines is available, at least online, here at the end of August) ..... here's a thread about the issue ......
August31,2002...wixt.com
Former President Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton visited the New York State Fair for the fourth consecutive year. First stop was a luncheon and then time to mingle and munch on fair food with the crowds. The Clintons were not the only politicians popping in at the Fair. Candidate for Governor Andrew Cuomo also came by on Friday afternoon. With only 11 days until the primary, Cuomo has a lot of ground to make up. Recent statewide polls show that he trails State Comptroller Carl McCall by double digits among democratic voters and Cuomo himself has admitted his message may not be getting through. Some new Cuomo TV ads are coming out, and the candidate says they do a better job of explaining what his campaign is all about.
Sharpton in Syracuse
The Reverend Al Sharpton gave a rousing speech at the Southwest Community Center attended by a number of leaders of the minority community. Reverend Sharpton said a sense of being somebody was important today when people are shooting each other recklessly and blaming it on lack of money and jobs. He said that too much permissiveness in our urban centers is more to blame for the crimes. If I were to step out from behind this platform and hit you off your chair, that's on me. But we come back next Friday morning and you're still lying on the floor, that's on you. Sharpton was in Syracuse to endorse Bill Mulrow, the Democratic Candidate for State Comptroller.
