A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-300 returned to Minneapolis just 21 minutes after departure Monday after its first officer reported chest pain, numbness in both arms and legs, and a heart rate in the high 100s.

Delta 1208 was headed from Minneapolis to Orlando with 178 passengers and seven crew. It took off at 11:29 a.m. Central, already nearly two hours late. About four minutes later, the captain told air traffic control, “We need to return to the field.”

safe and effective...

at least he didn’t die suddenly

I know a woman that just died suddenly in her late 30s.
No drug issues. Died in her sleep. She had to get vaxed to keep her job.

A-Fib? (Racing heart beat) I was treated for that years ago. A mostly successful surgery. I have a new normal state now, where I can feel the heart racing at times, but it never goes beyond a certain point. By the time I would get to a Doctor and be EKG’ed, everything would look normal and healthy. I felt like ‘The Patient Who Cried ‘Wolf!” until I recognized these episodes as either false alarms or temporary muscle strain in the armpit, clavicle areas.

I'm not interested in mRNA shots, myself.

Since I'm over 65, I get the Fluzone High-Dose Quadrivalent (protein-based), and it's worked well.

Just wondering. Are they telling people there are two variants of the shots or do they not tell you? Do people choose or the medical office and pharmacy?

I’ve taken the old time high dose shots for seniors a long time. I’m 80.

Used to be on the fence about flu shots but one time—just once—my wife and I shrugged it off and didn’t get the shot. She got the flu, was one of the thousands with a bad case that led to hospitalization, she had complications that put her into a coma and then temporary amnesia and was in the hospital for two weeks to recover.

After that year we just obeyed and got the flu shots.

IMHO the effectiveness of the old-style flu shots depends on how much you travel. The medical/public health geeks try to determine which flu variants seem to be a growing problem in each region of the country each season. The idea is to not inject you with vaccines of strains you’ll almost certainly not face; inject you with just the ones you’ll face in your region.

Really hard to know about these things. Years ago I worked with a guy who didn’t always get the flu shot but one year he did and he got so sick, he was off work for over a month. As for me, I never get the flu shot and have also never gotten sick from it.

“””A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-300 returned to Minneapolis just 21 minutes after departure”””

I call it the curse of flying into and out of Minneapolis, AKA Somalistan.

I was on a flight from Florida to MSP in July. The flight to MSP was delayed and the returning flight was also delayed. Many hours of delay in both cases.

Thanks. After all these years you are the first to tell me that bit of information.

I do think it’s amazing the board of decisionmakers for choosing the strains and variants for the new year’s flu shots is so wrong so often. I heard a newsclip where the 2026 ones given since late 2025 were almost completely off base for the real life flu that arrived.

Sad.

Like economists and weather forecasters they get paid the big bucks even when wrong nearly all the time.

yep, I guess they were not very effective. Even when the "guess" better they are only 25% effective.

Screenshot....

You got to the core of the problem.

Line from Classic Movie Hub about Zero Hour (the serious film from which Airplane was based):
“To guard against food poisoning FAA regulations forbid the serving of the same type meal (fish, meat or fowl) to a pilot and co-pilot.”
“Because a former war pilot (Dana Andrews) can’t get past a raid he led that went wrong, his wife leaves him. Despite being terrified to fly, he buys a ticket on her flight. When the pilot and co-pilot become incapacitated with serious food poisoning, our hero has to step up”
In real life, the actress Linda Darnell in the movie was married to a pilot.
