Toddler with Down syndrome drowned after mother placed him FACE-DOWN in bathtub, turned on water and left room for 14 minutes, prosecutors say

A Washington state mother has been accused of killing her disabled toddler after allegedly turning on the bathtub faucet and leaving him face-down in the water for nearly 15 minutes, prosecutors say.

Nakeeya Arbogast, 25, of Seattle, was arrested Monday in connection with the death of her two-year-old son after prosecutors alleged she left him alone in a rapidly filling bathtub, despite later admitting she knew it was 'unsafe.'

The toddler, identified only by the initials KOA in court documents, fought for his life in the hospital for two days before succumbing to brain injuries caused by the near-drowning.

Arbogast allegedly denied intending to kill her son, who had Down syndrome and significant physical and developmental delays that made him a 'particularly vulnerable' victim, according to charging documents obtained by The Daily Mail.

'On that night, as the water filled the tub around KOA's tiny body, he was unable to do anything to save himself from drowning,' prosecutors wrote, adding that Arbogast left him 'physically helpless.'

The toddler was unable to crawl, walk or sit independently without support, according to court documents. Arbogast allegedly told responding officers he functioned at the level of an 11-month-old baby.

A probable cause statement obtained by the Daily Mail revealed that the child's paternal grandfather, identified only as Owens Sr, told investigators he had witnessed Arbogast display threatening behavior on multiple occasions.

In one instance, the grandfather said he was speaking with his son, identified only as Owens, on the phone when he overheard Arbogast screaming in the background: 'You leave and I'll kill these ******* kids!'

A "toddler" is "one who toddles" There are multiple definitions. Both an age-based only definition and the "one who toddles" are separate entries. The context made it clear which definition was employed.

One definition of "adult" is a fully mature human who is one who has reached legal age. Another is one who is fully developed and mature. A Down's child will eventually be an adult in one sense, but not the other.

Lord God Almighty, just try to imagine the sheer wickedness of this calculated, deliberate act to one’s own child. It’s a clear case of Devil possession, it can’t be anything else. Especially, when you see the manny testimonials of parents with a Down syndrome child who express the joy that these special children bring to everyone around them. I had a cousin who had Down syndrome, Ramona, and she was such a happy, joyous person - just a pure gift of sunshine to our family.
