Ukraine peace talks collapse in less than two hours as Zelensky says it is 'not fair' Trump wants him to compromise and not Putin

US-mediated peace talks on Ukraine collapsed in less than two hours after Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky claimed it was unfair that Donald Trump was placing more pressure on his country than on Russia.

The second day of talks concluded on Wednesday, though neither side signalled they were any closer to ending Europe's deadliest conflict since World War II.

The talks wrapped up after just two hours, much shorter than the six hours of meetings on Tuesday, according to the head of Russia's delegation.

Trump and his surrogates long ago gave up pretending they care about the issue at hand: empire building Russian revanchism. This is foreign policy finger painting for the lobotomized. Ukraine ceding terrority will only validate Putin’s policy that brings only death and misery where it goes. He has, in fact, promised that personally and never stopped talking about invading the rest of Ukraine. But nobody getting direct deposit checks and sitting in their comfortable armchairs thousands of miles away cares about any of that today.

Nice fairy tale. The EU never would have sent 200 billion Euros to Moscow the past 3 years if they wanted Putin to lose. It’s that simple. Trump and the EU Globohoms and in broad agreement here: Ukraine surrenders its national identity to Russia and then back to business as usual with Moscow.

"In fact Zelensky and the EU are intentionally engineering a crisis in Ukraine to force the Trump Administration to resume supply of free weapons to Ukraine and to provide political and media pressure to force President Trump to intervene directly with US troops in Ukraine"

They've been trying to ensnare the US via an Article 5 for a while. However, on the bolded bit: absent an attack on the US, if DC were to do that, I would suspect 'civil unrest' in the US would ensue (from the productive folks). I think even the Democrats aren't that stupid.

Fairy tail?

What part is the fairy tale

Is the EU on track to supply Ukraine with 120 billion euros Zelensky demands as the bare minimum to keep the Ukraine economy afloat and Ukrainian army alive and in the fight ? No

Are the EU countries sending enough weapons to keep Ukraine in the fight -no no

Are Zelensky and the EU putting forward realistic peace proposals? No- they are doing everything they can to sabotage talks

Are serious people like NATO Sec General Rutte saying that the only hope for Ukraine militarily is if the US intervenes directly with US troops and opens up its weapons reserves to Ukraine - yes

Are there rumblings that the Ukraine's military and economic situation is beginning to deteriorate and that deteriorating situation may impact Ukraine's ability to prosecute the war - yes

Did Germany just inform the world that they have run out of air defense systems to supply to Ukraine - yes

The entire ecosystem that supports the war in Ukraine is winding down and the Ukraine is receiving billions of euros in support when they need hundreds of billions

The Ukraine is heading for a crisis timed to coincide with the 2026 US mid term elections

The toughest issue is the remnant of Ukrainian-held Donbas.

Putin wants it, but since he wants it so bad the Ukrainians can make the Russians pay dearly for gains there.

The price Russia would almost certainly pay is almost certainly higher than any possible benefit to Putin.

It simply doesn’t pay to lose 50,000 Russian soldiers so ~20,000 pro-Putin people can live under Putin rather than Kiev. Putin can give the ~20,000 pro-Putin people new housing and new workplaces for less than the financial cost of winning the rest of Donbas. Most of the pro-Putin people have probably already flee to RF held areas.

Making that clear to Putin is going to be part of “The Art of the Deal” IMO.

Peace is the cheaper path forward in terms of money and lives for both sides.

There is no doubt in my mind that Putin dreams of Soviet Union II.

However, he is generally a realist.

No Russian version General Grant has appeared in this war.

The monthly cost is high, the monthly gains are now small.

The key is to place a document carefully prepared in Washington, DC in front of Putin and Zelensky that it makes sense for both to sign, with reasoned encouragement by Team Trump.

The EU is not foot most of the bill. They have every right to be there.

I imagine this is your broken English attempt to say the EU is footing more of the bill than the US?

If that's the case, wrong. The US is putting up more than double the $$$ to Ukraine than all of the EU combined. If the eurotrash want the war to continue - let them on their dime and their dime alone.

At this point the only survival Ukraine is fighting for is the survival of their graft. Why the hell should the US care more about Ukraine than their own supposed "leaders" whose graft is so far beyond the pale they relieved/fired/jailed.... Z's #2, his Minister of Defense (oh wait - two of those), Minister of Energy, Minister of Justice, Minister of Agriculture, Deputy Prime Minister.....and on and on.

Keep going Ukraine!!!! Fight to the last Ukrainian - the frog and kraut treasuries are behind you!

Article doesn't mention delegations from EU countries showing up uninvited. Given some past actions from them, I wouldn't be surprised if they were there to queer the deal.

I take Trump at his word that he wants the killing to stop, and appreciate the effort, but sometimes you have to walk away.

It's NATO's war. Ukraine is only their proxy.

NATO wants war, so they are definitely there to 'queer the deal.'

I think Trump is simply waiting for NATO to accept the inevitable.

Eventually NATO will have to accept defeat in Ukraine.

I asked GROK about today's meeting:

EU delegations were in Geneva today for Russia-Ukraine talks.

Europe insists on staying involved due to security concerns.

Why is the USA still involved in a war where neither combatant is our enemy?

The people meeting aren’t the principals. It’s just for show. The principals aren’t interested in negotiating.

Of course you do. Why should anyone think that the Ukrainians are equal to us and have the same right to independence that we have? Right?

NATO is using Ukrainians as cannon fodder.

NATO is not trying to save the Ukraine for the Ukrainians.

Vice President Vance was correct when he said one year ago that Ukraine was running out of soldiers.

I've seen pictures of the elderly and disabled among Ukraine's conscripted soldiers.

President Trump said long ago, "You know you hear, 'Save the Ukraine,' and then you look and....what's left of it?'

In that address, President Trump said there were cities without a single standing building.

At this point, I want Ukrainians to survive NATO's proxy war against Russia.

Peace. Let them start there 110 year reconstruction efforts all over Ukraine.

Time to walk away from Ukraine, President Trump. Let the EU provide the solution.

🛢️ The Ukrainians’ decision to block oil deliveries through the Friendship pipeline to Hungary is blatant political blackmail. They’re trying to pressure us to support their EU membership & hand over funds belonging to Hungarian families. In response, Hungary has decided to stop diesel fuel deliveries to Ukraine. Thankfully, Hungary has a government that doesn’t bow to blackmail. We have taken all necessary steps to secure our supply and we will not give in.

You need to look at what is now budgeted, not was given in past year. For 2026, the EU and UK combined have budged $52 billion, the US has only budgeted $400 million. Trump has all but cut off aid to Ukraine.

I don’t like negotiated peace settlements. It seems they just function as a time to re-arm for next time. As awful as it sounds, let them fight until one side surrenders.

Sometimes I think all you need to finish the war is to finish Zelensky.

Sometimes I think we Americans in the American region of the world (the peaceful continents) need to remember that it should not matter if they stop fighting. It’s a European war between two NON-Nato European countries.

I think we should sell what we can to Ukraine as we are doing now.

Though he prefers peacekeeper over war whenever possible, I think Trump’s perseverence has more to do with the newly organised Board of Peace. That’s its purpose along with someday replacing the UN.
