‘They Have to Pay a Price!’ Trump Absolutely LOSES IT Over Dismal NYT Poll
Mediaite ^ | January 22, 2026 | Isaac Schorr

Posted on 01/22/2026 9:45:51 AM PST by Miami Rebel

President Donald Trump declared that The New York Times must “pay a price” on Thursday after the Gray Lady and Siena University released a new poll suggesting that just 40% of registered voters approve of him.

In a write-up about the survey, the Times’ chief political analyst Nate Cohn observed that “The major demographic shifts of the last election have snapped back. In today’s poll, Mr. Trump’s approval rating by demographic group looks almost exactly as it did in Times/Siena polling in the run-up to his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. If anything, young and nonwhite voters are even likelier to disapprove of Mr. Trump than they were then, while he retains most of his support among older and white voters.”

“Voters have an unfavorable view of Mr. Trump’s performance on almost every issue tested in the poll, including his handling of immigration and the economy and his approach to Russia, Israel, and other foreign relations,” noted Cohn.

Trump did not take kindly to those results.

In his first Truth Social post about them, he declared that “The Times Siena Poll, which is always tremendously negative to me, especially just before the Election of 2024, where I won in a Landslide, will be added to my lawsuit against The Failing New York Times.”

“Our lawyers have demanded that they keep all Records, and how they ‘computed’ these fake results — Not just the fact that it was heavily skewed toward Democrats. They will be held fully responsible for all of their Radical Left lies and wrongdoing!” he added.

In second and third posts about the matter, the president escalated the matter even further, going so far as to suggest that publishing “Fake” polling ought to be a “criminal offense.”

Read the full text of Trump’s posts below:

Something has to be done about Fake Polls! They are truly OUT OF CONTROL. We have the Greatest Economy in the History of our Country, we have the Strongest Border in History, nobody has ever done a job like I have done, and they have me in the low 40s. The Democrats destroyed Healthcare, I’m trying to fix it, and they give me FAKE low numbers. Fake Polls on the Economy, on the Border, on just about everything, are ridiculous and dangerous. The REAL Polls have been GREAT, but they refuse to print them. This is no different than a writer who is corrupt, of which there are many. The New York Times, and so many others, print Polls that are knowingly false. They have become deranged, and sick. They suffer from a major case of TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME (TDS). Their 2024 Election coverage was so bad, and so wrong, and yet they never get called out for it — But I am calling them out with the lawsuit that I have filed which is making its way through the Courts. They have to pay a price for FAKE AND FRAUDULENT NEWS and, hopefully, in the not too distant future, they will!

***

Fake and Fraudulent Polling should be, virtually, a criminal offense. As an example, all of the Anti Trump Media that covered me during the 2020 Election showed Polls that were knowingly wrong. They knew what they were doing, trying to influence the Election, but I won in a Landslide, including winning the Popular Vote, all 7 of the 7 Swing States, the Electoral College was a route, and 2,750 Counties to 525. You can’t do much better than that, and yet if people examined The Failing New York Times, ABC Fake News, NBC Fake News, CBS Fake News, Low Ratings CNN, or the now defunct MSDNC, Polls were all fraudulent, and bore nothing even close to the final results. Something has to be done about Fraudulent Polling. Even the Polls of FoxNews and The Wall Street Journal have been, over the years, terrible! There are great Pollsters that called the Election right, but the Media does not want to use them in any way, shape, or form. Isn’t it sad what has happened to American Journalism, but I am going to do everything possible to keep this Polling SCAM from moving forward!

Oh, much like Somali Children in daycare, the NYT receives millions on “subscriptions” from the federal government.

I am familiar with that story.

The money’s were for advertising and subscriptions for government employees who they thought would benefit from reading it. Not subsidies.

When you have a population that is by large measure financially ignorant and emotionally incontinent, they bite on the “Affordability Crisis” propaganda while they sit in the drive thru line at Starbucks for $6;cups of coffee in a financed new car with an 8 year loan term including $890 car payments.

Considering federal employees weren't going to an office for years, just where does the Times send their subscriptions?

The Somalian community didn't create this game. They just jumped the shark with it after watching the system. Flattery I suppose?

Trump is so much like Churchill in his mannerisms. I wish he would take this quote from Churchill to heart.

I used to fly the Times every morning to every UNC campus airport in North Carolina. Roughly 5,800 pounds of newspapers. They would sit for days under cover, only to find the dumpsters by Saturday. I kept bringing them because somebody demanded it be done so they had them available every morning in the professors lounge. That was 1994 thru 1996.

Thats just them being willfully dense. We all lived through the 9% inflation under the last guy…. Yet people expect me to believe 2.8% inflation is crushing them? Sometimes life becomes unaffordable because of bad personal decisions…. Like moving to big cities, earning a degree that pays crap, taking a job AI can do, spending instead of saving…. The list goes on. They wont be able to gaslight folks on economic progress much longer. Soon it will be “why low inflation is bad”, “why wage growth isnt what it seems”, “sure there are jobs out there , at what cost?”🤣🤣

Push “polling” and biased selection of poll respondents should indeed be against election law, absolutely.

I don't trust any one poll. But the Siena poll has typically not been that bad for Trump. And taken together, the polls are not great for Trump and Republicans heading into the midterms

I think what really set Trump over the edge was the analysis from Nate Cohn about how Trump's coalition of young people and nontraditional voters has evaporated.

Commies lie. It's tactical. NYT = the world's greatest Communist publication. Not kidding or anything. That's the way it is, and has been, for more than 50 years. Of course their Trump poll is going to have less than 45 % approval for Trump.

It's a tactic. Figure it out, DJT. They are Communists.

Communists gonna commie.

Disagree - economy is all that matters to indies and “affordability” hawks… the rest is white noise…
Illegals are an 80-20 for them…. That wont help
And Greenland? He will have secured whatever deal he wanted in the near future I reckon… that will be a win.
There will always be some issue the media will try and spin and make it sound like its the worst thing ever… luckily the media is further down the credibility ladder than even politicians I think…. At least as low as their credibility has ever been.

And 40% is an incredibly awesome showing coming from their remaining readership. 🤣👍
