A lot of films, but the one I would submit is “The Sting.”

"Without A Clue" - an alternative view of the Sherlock Holmes story, starring Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley.

"Prisoner of Zenda" starring Peter Sellers, Peter Sellers, and Peter Sellers. My favorite character in this movie is actually Count Rupert of Hentzau, played by Stuart Wilson.

Both movies are very entertaining comedies, plus the added pleasure of having the support of Henry Mancini background and theme music.

I always liked this movie. In the Conan Doyle stories, Watson is portrayed as an intelligent, brave, and perfectly competent man, albeit not a genius like Holmes. Somehow, "not a genius" got turned into "complete idiot" by the Baker Street Dozen and lots of other film adaptations. So "Without a Clue" inverts the premise by making Holmes the idiot - a clever move!

A great War Comedy from Poland

Jak Rozpętałem Drugą Wojnę Światową (How I Won The Second World War)

This is the movie that has the famous “Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz” scene.

My favorite one-scene character in the movie was Dylan Baker as “Owen”, especially the moment where he wipes the tobacco spittle from his mouth and shakes Martin’s hand.

I agree with others that Second Hand Lion is a good one and would add October Sky.

Lion
Temple Grandin
The Last Sin Eater
The ZooKeeper’s Wife

Not sure if these fit in your template, but I have these filed as recommended movies. They are some of my favorites and I don’t watch too many movies. Enjoy.

That’s “The Great Train Robbery” with Sean Connery and Donald Sutherland. Funny, exciting, little violence. The main characters are of course criminals. But it is upbeat!

Speaking of crooks, the original of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was called Bedtime Story (Marlon Brando, David Niven). Also very funny, hardly sixty seconds without a laugh. Not currently on youtube but probably on amazon and worth every cent.

Or you can watch Laurel and Hardy, that’s what I do for cheers. Hard to top Sons of the Desert.

Another vote for Captain Ron. Quirky humor with a bit of adventure thrown in.

Thanks in advance for such a list.

I’ll be back! BTTT!

Of course, there is “Diehard” - it has a happy ending but some of the cast may not agree!

😊😎
