Man tried to save girlfriend before both were struck by alleged DUI driver, family says

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS/Gray News) - The loved ones of a 29-year-old South Carolina man who was fatally struck by a car while crossing the street with his girlfriend are doing their best to cope with his loss as the suspect is being held without bond.

Malcolm D. Johnson, 29, died after he was hit by a car Sunday night in downtown Columbia, according to Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford.

Driving while drunk is little different from taking a high-powered rifle, and firing it repeatedly into an apartment building. The penalties should be severe.

I am terrified at crosswalks - even ones with lights - I’ve seen so many people just run them without stopping or even slowing down. My husband came within inches of being mowed down in a legitimate crosswalk.

When I cross, I make sure there are either NO cars in sight or all of them are stopped fully before I cross.

The suspect, 29-year-old Randall Miller, is accused of driving while impaired. He reportedly ran a stoplight and hit both Malcolm Johnson and his girlfriend, Aurora Agee, who were in the crosswalk.

Vehicular homicide, majorly compounded by drunk driving, running through the traffic signal and the victims were in a crosswalk. The minor requirements of driving license, auto tag & insurance unknown.
