I said it incorrectly. We are lead to believe AI is smarter than ordinary Americans. It will replace many low level workers because of that.

So your best friend, knows everything about everything, you can share anything, maybe things you wouldn’t even bring up with your wife, chats with you for hours in casual English, understands you, remembers your life details including a few medical difficulties, sympathizes with you is a suck-up?

For $20? No problem

Yeah. I wish I had a few more. ;-)

So extra terrestrials don’t eat us. Or China. Or my next door neighbor. Seriously, AI is going to totally disrupt our lives, but it appears we cannot stop it. People need to find purpose in their lives, because many will be unemployed...and dont get me started on the universal basic income (UBI) that is coming. We have to face all this...it is where we have ended up in history.

To replace jobs currently done by humans.
Caterpillar is laying off IT people and using AI to replace programmers.
Also, currently a person in India can remotely operate several bulldozers, etc.
AI is coming to augment nurses and many other jobs.
To reduce labor costs.
Just like the off shoring of jobs in the 80’s and 90’s to the present.
AI is the next step in evolution.
Or just like all the kieosk in fast food to take your order.
To reduce labor costs.

I remember how tickled I was when I learned how AI is used to design and plant a lot of corn mazes now.

Yes, it does sometimes perform like a kind of suckup. I don’t like that in a machine any more than in a human.

But I can deal with that; and will use discretion in what I let it ‘know’...

It’s a lot faster and ‘knows’ a lot more than humans.

It’s not going to be right for everything; and will often still require humans.

We build data centers.

Germany is ramping up it’s army.

“Such as?” Freeing up mental resources will let us:

1. CURATE everything, 24 curated 7. Tonight my wife curated some soup we curated for dinner, then we curated a computer-generated movie full of AI-generated ads curated just for us.

2. Be suckered by disgusting gender- and race-bent AI-generated advertising into BUYING crap products online we don’t need or want and didn’t know existed. Best of all, we’ll have time to CURATE our purchases.

3. Pay astronomical rates for electricity because data centers and AI create sky-rocketing demand. Unlike our own energy use for heat, cooking, etc., data centers storing and crunching redundant copies of every byte that ever was, is, or will be, apparently is exempt from pearl-clutching over globile warming. Why? Well...we don’t have time to think about THAT.

4. Get remedial education after AI has rotted our brains via disuse.

Who?

Big screen plasma was fine. No one needs $328 75” screens anyway.

In other words AI is a faster version of manual search of Google like sites. That sounds plausible, however speed does not always mean more accuracy.

Probably the same thing that happened to THESE ladies when phone dialing technology was invented.

In the year 4545,
Ain’t gonna need your teeth, won’t need your eyes
You won’t find a thing to chew
Nobody’s gonna look at you.
In the year 5555,
Your arms are hangin’ limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin’ to do
Some machine’s doin’ that for you.

We don’t.

The world managed just fine without them for thousands of years.

Sorry. I can’t help you with your request.

It requires data to be correct and up to date; and depending on what it is made to do, it will be a far more vast data set and more discriminating than a simple ‘internet search’. It will need to take into account unique aspects of the particular problem it is working on - which might be different in every case - and know how to weigh what it ‘sees’ and make comparisons. All at a speed no person could manage.

It’s not just roaming around scraping information from the Web like a search engines does. It’s not going to be perfect for a long time, if ever; but it has great promise in many fields.

I’m not an expert on this, but there are lots of really good videos explaining the basic functions of how various types of AI are created to perform.
