Come trick-or-treat season or any time you’re presented with a choice from a candy jar, selecting just one chocolate bar from the mix is about as difficult as picking a favorite child (or so I’ve heard from parents). Sweetness levels vary widely, as does the source of the chocolate, the mix-ins or fillings, the texture, and more.

To help us narrow down the competition and build a shortlist of the best bars for s’mores, snacking, and sneaking into cakes, we called up a handful of our favorite culinary pros from coast to coast for some sweet talk. Read on to discover which chocolate bar these chefs love—plus, brilliant ways to add it to your menu this week.

The Best Chocolate Bar, According to Chefs

Just like with chocolate chip cookies, many of us have a different definition of “perfect” when it comes to chocolate bars. The chefs shared quite a diverse collection of favorites, ranging from trick-or-treat mainstays to trendy artisan chocolates. But only one drew multiple votes, earning the crown from chefs in our poll: Tony’s Chocolonely.

They certainly look to be similar. Of course I was eating them 50 and 60 years ago.

Very different box of course. These are British origin. The others could have been too.

My vote goes to Russell Stover’s Pecan Delights.
Pecans, caramel and chocolate!

Well, if you are anywhere near, drop over to the Greenbrier and try theirs.

The hot chocolate they make is the best ever.

Haven’t been in a few years, but some of their recipes are killer.

And...

"You may drink the coffee now."

Coffee is worse than chocolate. But they are working hard to un-oppress poor old Juan Valdez.

The list given is fking trash. British chocolate beats any and all of these except Lindt.

Cadbury’s and Galaxy (Dove) beats most American chocolate, though I am partial to Snickers.

Mounds and Baby Ruth are not chocolate bars. They are candy bars.

I was in food processing for a long time. One factory made chocolate coated stuff and it took two years before chocolate appealed again. The other made eggnog three months a year. I could not stand the smell of nutmeg for about six months after.

> The best chocolate bar is the one your eating at the time.

I recall years ago hearing that a little differently; I believe it referenced the best BJ being the one you're getting. :-)
