From 2020 - Protesters call for justice, authorities to defund Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
“Weigh”?
Get the costumed characters/djs/scammers/homeless off the strip sidewalks along with banning open pot smoking and that would go a LONG way to restoring the strip. I’ve only been going there for just over 10 years and the decline from the first time I went to present day is jaw dropping.
Yeah, only the casinos, restaurants, and all other businesses in Las Vegas are allowed to rob the tourists.
LV used to provide more or less “Free Stuff”.
Apparently NOT so much any more.
I haven’t been there since the demise of The Sands.
Unlikely that I will ever return.
Been there, done that.
It’s not just crime.
Vegas went full Disney.
Never go full Disney.
Now if they could ban people smoking weed all over the place, that would be cool.
The place was a smelly mess when we went a couple years ago.
Meh. It’s worth a try.
We should construct some buildings with bars on the windows and doors to protect the public from "criminal offenders."
What do you think?
the primary problem isn’t criminal offenders on the streets (indeed, some of Vegas’ chief attractions have been enumerated among them!)
the primary problem is that the prices for Vegas attractions, shows, lodging, and restaurants have gone sky high... way way way above what normal working people can afford
priced out of (most of) the market, period.
Because it isn’t the $9 bottles of water. Nope.
I’m no expert on tourism but I remember seeing “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” commercials every where and now I see nothing. There used to be shows and movies about how fun Vegas is but now you don’t see much of that either
If you want people to go you need to sell them on Vegas being a wild party that you can’t replicate going to an Indian casino or betting on your phone.
Also the Saudis cranked up the prices on everything (or so I’ve been told) which sucks because I liked those cheap all you can Buffets
The need to talk about this says, “Don’t go there”. I haven’t been since 1980. Listened to Hubie Blake (1887-1983) in a little bar off the main strip. Less than 10 people in the place, magical.
Wiki- “Blake’s musical training began when he was four or five. While out shopping with his mother, he wandered into a music store, climbed onto the bench of an organ, and started “foolin’ around”. When his mother found him, the store manager told her: “The child is a genius! It would be criminal to deprive him of the chance to make use of such a sublime, God-given talent.” The Blakes purchased a pump organ for US$75.00, making payments of 25 cents a week. When Blake was seven, he received music lessons from a neighbor, Margaret Marshall, an organist for the Methodist church.[8] At age 15, without his parents’ knowledge, he began playing piano at Aggie Shelton’s Baltimore bordello.”
So right now criminal offenders are allowed on the Strip?
Bandaids won’t fix Vegas. They need to bring back the mob run casinos which apparently understand how to give customers a good deal.
Loosen up those slots. The machines, I mean.<>
Was in Lost Wages thrice - a wedding, golf, visiting family. Three times too many.
Or they could stop ripping people off.
It is said that Nevada has more ghost towns than inhabited ones. Seems the newest one is Primm, a cluster of casinos just over the California line. Most, if not all of them are closed, as is the one in Jean, about halfway between the state line and Las Vegas.
