Do people on SNAP not get their November benefits?

Will SNAP benefits not be issued in November due to the government shutdown? My cleaning lady, a cancer survivor receiving SNAP (she desperately needs it) just asked me, and I don't know. Does any FReeper definitively know?

She is obviously a person both in need of and worthy help and you are a good and worthy person for helping her.

Hopefully this thing will end soon but in the mean time people helping people is the best way to get through it.

I don’t doubt your figures about SNAP including military, people with high medical costs, high utility bills.

Given our ever-upward cycle of government debt-higher inflation-more spending-more welfare, its a political, social and economic problem which will be impossible to change without what would amount to a collapse of society or a revolution.

See you assume crap. I think anyone committing SNAP fraud should be locked up and go to prison for felony fraud or deported. I have absolutely no compassion for those who “play” the system. But I do not think that innocent bystanders who really do need it should starve because of the guilty.

I have been doing what I can do for her. I am retired, on a pension, so I can’t fully subsidize her. But I do what I can.

Thank you for sharing that. I think there are a whole bunch here who have this issue close to home. I know a whole bunch who are red blooded Conservatives fighting the good fight who just cannot make ends meet right now... Being conservative doesn’t make you automatically rich and that is a fact.

As she is greatly enhancing mine. I would not have any free time or leftover energy without her, I'd be vacuuming, dusting, mopping, etc. She keeps my house so immaculate, I never hesitate to have neighbors drop in or their kids. And she enhances the life of another handicapped person, another cancer survivor who she cleans for. We all appreciate her so very much.

As a temporary, stop-gap measure, a good food choice for very poor people to buy and eat are those little plastic bags of dry beans (pinto beans, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, great northern beans, navy beans, black beans, etc.), which you can get at Walmart, Amazon, or pretty much everywhere.

They only cost about a buck something, and are very nutritious, and each bag lasts for many meals.   There are zillions of recipes for making beans in different ways (including using them in soups, stews, salads, or with various sauces, etc.), so meals centered on them can be quite varied.

It might be helpful for very poor people to stock up on various types of those dry beans, while waiting for their benefits to resume.

(Of course, they may need to stock up on some Gas-X too!)

I am an ordained Chaplain and have been giving every extra dime to those who need it all of my life. I even gave everything I did not absolutely need from my business for almost 50 years. My own family had to eat beans and rice many times to make sure other families in trouble were able to eat too.

I gave away product and repair services for free to make sure families could get their kids to school and the doctor when they needed it. I have dedicated my life to volunteerism and helping others without ever once holding myself more important than those who need.

So what do you do with your money? Buy bigger faster toys? You ain’t got nothing righteous over me my friend. I have earned the right to bitch... Every bit of it through self sacrifice and personal moral example...
