I think there is a vocabulary issue here.

Smallpox is caused by a virus. You can see the thing under a microscope.
Polio is a virus.
Tuberculosis is caused by bacteria. You can see the thing under a microscope.
To me, these are all “diseases”.

Obesity? Alcoholism? Acid Reflux?

I don’t like to call them “diseases”. They may be medical problems that deserve treatment, but they are not like Tuberculosis. It’s a whole different category — but I don’t think we have a good term for it. I see these things as somewhat “medical” but also — frankly — a matter of personal failure. If you behaved differently, you wouldn’t be affected by the problem. But if it’s a “disease”, then I guess none of this is your fault.

Every little itch and irritation has become medicalized. Interestingly, these new diseases often emerge alongside new drugs.

Stay away from commercialized medicine, as it has become a tool for social engineering.

From Google Search Assist:

Acid reflux itself is not classified as a disease; it is a condition where stomach acid flows back into the esophagus. However, when acid reflux occurs frequently and causes symptoms or complications, it is referred to as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

I agree that we don’t have a good term for these conditions.

Alcoholism, obesity and such are addictions. More a form of mental illness than disease.

It’s a ‘disease’ to qualify drugs to correct the symptom without addressing the cause.

Old news, same ol’ story.

“Medical Industrial Complex” supersedes mere ‘health.’

They LOVE a new surge in symptoms.

In contrast, if you get too close to a stupid person...

Sorta like the idiots massed in the streets yesterday bemoaning potential loss of subsidies for a medical ‘insurance’ system that failed on paper before it became law (as intended).

I have GERD. I also have IBD- inflammatory bowel disease. These are chronic conditions. The way I see it, diseases can be spread. Chronic conditions can’t. They may be passed on genetically, but not spread.

I don’t care what they’re called…

Gregory Whatever caught it because he is too close to dumbasses.
Acid reflux (heartburn) is a metabollic disease caused by nutrition in most cases.
It is solved in less a month by eating carnivore. Anyone looking at Youtube carnivore or keto channels will find thousands of testimonies of such “miracle”, all dismissed by the establisment pill pushers of course.
I have a relative who has chosen carnivore to heal her excrutiating back pain. Then she realized her acid reflux has also disappeared.

Diabetes, GERD, hypertension, etc, all chronic conditions, are not contagious but they CAN be spread (by whom you know well).
If they can’t, then why on Earth do they become so widespread now?

I have no idea what “acid reflux disease” is, so I looked it up on WebMD.
Don’t have any of those symptoms.

“...but they are not like Tuberculosis...”

In some cases they are. One of the most prevalent illnesses, one I have, is congestive heart failure. What that is is when the heart is not strong enough to pump fluids through the body and they build up. The majority of it rests in the midriff part of the body thus displaying an abundance of size and weight which most think is fat when it is really fluid. There is medication that can be used like Lasix for water retention. But as the illness matures, it can no longer be used at the levels needed at certain point when it becomes dangerous. And normally the outer extremities like arms and legs are drained first and look dehydrated while the trunk is still a threat to the heart failure which further creates an appearance of overweightness. Ultimately, the body drowns itself.

It is an idiopathic functional/mechanical malady if you will, and tends to be chronic. Like so many other such conditions...cpps, interstitial cystitis, etc...I’m convinced they are stress/anxiety based. Doctors know a lot about them but just not how to fix them. There is a vicious cycle feedback loop involved...anxiety/stress creates the pain which feeds anxiety which feeds the pain and on and on. Where it focuses depends on ths individual. The trick is to break out of the cycle by escaping anxiety/stress. Good luck on that!

Pharma is constantly in search of a new “disease” to be “treated” (never cured) by new patented meds. Diseases created to fit the “treatment”. Been like that for a while as am sure you know. You know “transgender” is a disease (mental) which surgeons, some, greedily charge to “cure”— and then the stupid bastards kill themselves (because they never got a 2 year analysis of their mental illness vs. actual “intersex” physicality). imho.

Gregory was hugely funny, and, morbidly obese (stomach stapled, got cancer and wasted away). From Lithonia, GA used to host a comedy club. His routine on hurricanes is absolutely hilarious. If y’all have a hard time understanding him— just ask. Great Geowgiah accent:

I have had GERD for about 20 years. Don’t have to take medication for it if I am careful about what I eat. Has been a bit of a blessing as it forces me to eat healthier.

I avoid the following:

Egg yolks (egg whites are ok)

Uncooked citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and limes. Have no problem with tomatoes.

Carbonated drinks

Carbs like oatmeal and potatoes. No problem with pasta.

Bell peppers

Can handle cooked onions in small amounts

Have to be careful with fried/greasy foods

Have never been a coffee drinker but tea does not trigger my GERD
