A luxury yacht worth nearly $1 million plunged into the waters off the shore of Turkey just 15 minutes after its maiden voyage as panicked passengers and crew jumped overboard.
Dramatic amateur video shows the vessel, named Dolce Vento, ease into the waters off the coast of Zonguldak in northern Turkey’s Eregli district Tuesday before lurching to one side and slowly sinking into the depths.
It was the first time the approximately 85-foot boat, worth around $940,000, was launched after being delivered to its owner from Istanbul.
The owner, captain and two crew members jumped overboard and safely swam to shore without injury, and the Coast Guard and port teams responded to set up a security perimeter around the flailing watercraft.
Officials at the shipyard said the cause of the sinking was under investigation, and that technical inspections of the yacht will be carried out to determine what happened.

It was taking on water big time.
>>now he owns a luxury artificial reef.
Clapping wildly.
Actually, clapping wildly for the whole thread!
“The weather started getting rough. The big ole yacht was tossed…”
Sounds like it took on a lot of liquid ballast, quickly. What’s Turkish for “I thought *you* closed the seacocks!”?
Glad to hear they will do technical inspections, to determine what happened.
Good plan......
Sarcasm.....
One word: BALLAST........................
Some people shouldn’t have money.

Yeah...amazing to see the ~$200K boats sitting on trailers at a local dealer.
A luxury yacht does not cost “nearly a million.”
Hey, you want oil, that’s gonna cost extra.
Isn’t “Dolce Vento” the XX-large cup size of the Starbucks “Pumpkin Spice iced Frappuccino”?
There were crew and passengers on the boat before it launched?
It's happened before. Had an interview with a high-end yacht builder many years ago. A couple of days before the first interview, they called and apologized but had to postpone our meeting for a few weeks. Turns out, they had delivered a yacht to a very wealthy, elderly woman and she had her crew take her on the maiden voyage to Italy where her order of custom marble floors, marble counters and a nice big marble tub with gold fixtures was waiting for installation. After the installation, they set the 90 ft yacht back in the water and she promptly began rolling over. Fortunately, still in the sling, they were able to save the boat and lift it back out. The engineers and designers I was scheduled to interview with had been sent to Italy to successfully resolve her new ballast issues.
...just a three hour cruise....
Happening so quickly doesn’t suggest an open drain plug. More like catastrophic failure of something else. Also, a $900,000 85 footer would cost many millions in the US.
😂😂😂
I just heard that in Chief Inspector Clouseau’s voice
Sinking in 15 minutes is actually pretty impressive. The owner should have opted for a waterproof hull.
Yes, but now that new Turkish (Muslim-built, Muslim-owned) yatch can pass under even lower bridges!
Seriously observing though, a slight list on launching can be recovered. But this is merely a bad case sinking civ’s, not yet a sunkenciv.
But this gross a problem is one of balance and center of gravity, center of buoyancy being not only “off” but reversed. Once the topside weight was over center, it “floated” for a while with the center of the keel above water. And the engine (propeller spinning in mid-air) still running.
(At launch, I can see the diesel genset being run for power, pumps, and lights. Basic flood control or trimming tanks. But never the main engine and propeller. Crew panic when engine room began flooding from that open valve, open tank cover?)
