An active-duty Army sergeant is accused of shooting five soldiers at Fort Stewart in Georgia on Wednesday before nearby soldiers subdued him. The suspect is in custody and the wounded soldiers are in stable condition and expected to recover, according to Army officials. Three of the five victims needed surgery.
The suspect is 28-year-old Quornelius Radford, an Army logistics sergeant from Jacksonville, Florida, who used a personal handgun to allegedly carry out the shooting.
Brig. Gen. John Lubas said in a statement that nearby soldiers acted quickly. He said “soldiers in the area that witnessed the shooting immediately and without hesitation tackled” Radford and “subdued him.”
Lubas further said that Army officials did not know at the time how the suspect was able to bring a firearm into the area.
Radford is being detained as charges are drafted against him. He was assigned to a combat brigade, but Lubas said he had not been deployed into combat.
According to the Army, the victims were co-workers of the suspect, but the suspect’s motivations is nevertheless undetermined. Army investigators were interviewing him in an attempt to learn more about his motivation. Early reports indicate no known behavioral issues with Radford.
The suspect was arrested this year for a DUI, Lubas confirmed, but that fact wasn’t known to his superiors.
The incident happened at 10:56 a.m., according to an update posted on Fort Stewart’s Facebook page. The installation quickly went into lockdown, though it has now been lifted.

How was the DUI not known? This should have been an automatic reporting. When I was in USAF in the 1980's, my superiors would have known within a day or two.
He looks like the kid on Deliverance.
I see the problem; Quornelius doesn’t have a real name. Looks like his mother destroyed his life and he turned to violence striking out at others.
That long? I honestly thought they would have had his 1st Seargent pick him up in about 2 hours.
I figured it was one of them.
Falling down of course.
And ships roll and sway, right?
Gotta be careful going thru those hatch ways I’d think.
Allegedly.
Were the bullets and wounds also alleged?
I’ve never understood a US military base being a gun-free zone!
IMO, if you want to restore the 2nd Amendment to it’s full glory, all military personnel on US bases worldwide should be allowed to carry, but not required to carry.
IOW, all military personnel should be allowed to carry - if they so desired.
Re “… ..he needs a long time in jail...”
Jail, Hell.
He needs to be executed, in public view.
I think the report just said “Florida Man involved in shooting on Army base.”
Damn.....
“Wednesday on ‘’’suspicion’’’ of opening fire at his workplace”.
Always weasel words.
Of course.
