At 62, Phyllis Jones felt trapped in darkness. She was traumatized by her mother’s recent death, ongoing pandemic stress and an increasingly toxic work environment. A sudden panic attack led to a medical leave.

“These are cognitively healthy people between the ages of 60 and 79 who, to be in the study, had to be completely sedentary and at risk for dementia due to health issues such as prediabetes and borderline high blood pressure,” said principal investigator Laura Baker, a professor of gerontology, geriatrics and internal medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

I retired Jan 2024 and they asked me to come back PT so I did in Sept 2024. My problem was that I didn’t spend a full year in retirement. I don’t know what it is like to not work from Sept to Jan.

Thanks for sharing. I’m very familiar with sarcopenia—it’s essentially age-related muscle loss, which becomes more of a concern past midlife, especially without sufficient protein intake and resistance training.

I already follow a solid exercise and dietary routine tailored for muscle preservation and metabolic health, but I’ll give the video a look to see what insights it offers.

As an estate planner I have observed older folks for over 40 years. This data rings true with my experience. We need to be expected somewhere to do something on a routine basis. We need to stay significant. We need to move. We need to make ourselves do things we don’t want to do. I am 70 now and never will retire as long as I have any ability to work.
