Losing a tooth is an important developmental stage in childhood, but it is far less pleasant in adulthood. It needs pricey dental substitutes like dentures or implants, but that could soon change. Toregem Biopharma, a Japanese pharmaceutical business, is about to launch a ground-breaking medication designed to promote tooth growth.
The Japan Times claims that the group responsible for this outstanding accomplishment, which was supported by Kyoto University and headed by Toregem Biopharma, had been working hard on the project for years. A medication that targets the suppression of a protein that inhibits tooth growth is the result of their work.
Dr. Katsu Takahashi, a renowned researcher and the head of the dentistry and oral surgery department at the prestigious Medical Research Institute Kitano Hospital, is at the forefront of this medical advancement. When Dr. Takahashi started doing intensive study at Kyoto University in 2005, he began his relentless quest for the regrowth of teeth, an apparently unattainable ambition.
Their ground-breaking discovery is based on a particular mouse gene called USAG-1, which has a significant impact on how teeth form. The dual function of the gene, which may either stimulate or inhibit dental growth, was discovered by the researchers. The crucial concept that surfaced was the development of a "neutralizing antibody medicine" intended to successfully prevent the negative consequences of the USAG-1 gene, thereby opening the door for tooth regrowth.
The scientific community was shocked by the hopeful results of the first trials on mice, which showed that the new medication caused the creation of new teeth. But the researchers wasn't satisfied with their success; they wanted to confirm their findings on ferrets, whose tooth patterns closely resembled those of humans. The experimental medication caused amazing tooth regeneration in the ferrets. It was a turning point in their quest...

“The only downside is that the tooth grows out of the end of your nose...”
or a dozen of more new teeth start to grow out in every which direction ...
most organic functions and growth are controlled or influenced by several genes, not just one all by itself.
for instance, information is required to stimulate growth and then again to halt the growth after it has reached the desired amount, degree.

I called the company in Japan and asked for myself. A guy came on in broken English and said “You grow teeth, look like Steve Buscemi!”
My dentist keyed me into this research after I lost two back molars to popcorn kernels. Said I should wait on a partial plate since this research is reaching maturation and I’m a prime candidate since I still have a baby tooth in place at age 64 and my wisdom teeth have just started coming in. For decades they assumed I had no wisdom teeth because they never showed on x-rays. A few years ago the two upper teeth appeared pretty much out of nowhere and are slowly dropping down into position.
Hope for hockey players!
And meth heads
Yes, actually. But my other thought was military. I wonder if there is a need for wounded soldiers with facial injuries to regrow their teeth.
New!
The side effects in some should be...interesting.“
I was thinking the same thing.
Once you hear the side effects of most drugs, I’m surprised anyone takes any drug!
I saw an article on this a while back. This process will only work in certain conditions. It won’t just work on anyone. Age may of been a factor but I can’t remember what it was. I just know that it would not have worked on the majority of us.
The most stupid pharma TV ad “side effects” announcements say “if you are allergic” to this drug - as if anyone whose never tried it knows whether or not they are allergic to it. So stupid, as the pharma lawyers insist on CYA to the nth stupid degree.
If only the new teeth had been formed in the mice’s mouth ...
Yes, that puzzled me too. Maybe they mean people who have had side effects but are thinking of trying thr drug again...
That would be amazing....had my first tooth extracted since I was a teenager just a couple weeks ago. Boy, did that suck. Now when that heals, I have to have a post screwed into my jaw. 6 months of healing after that and I can have a crown mounted on that post and be back to where I was before...a lot of pain and several thousand dollars later.
I work with a lady who got full dental implants top & bottom. She had infections and sued the oral surgeon. She told me she could have bought a Cadillac with what she spent as she had the posts installed & removed several times. She was happy during COVID as she could wear a mask. Talked to her the other day and now she’s battling Stage 4 cancer.
I had one of my front biting teeth replaced a couple years ago and that was $5k.
Where can I get some?
..”Rabbit” in Japanese.”
Interesting language. Only Japanese word I know is saki.
