Does anyone know how old the Free Republic software is? Doesn't appear to have been updated in at least the 20 years that I've been here. It would be nice to have hyperlinks and better interfaces and a better search function. Not just text and photo files in line. It looks like Craigslist looked about 25 years ago. Anybody with software experience have any thoughts on this?

A lot of you old guys still reading using DialUp im sure you’re very happy to have the hand cranked site. Have any of you noticed that just a couple years ago the postings were plentiful and it took quite a while to scan through them all, and now the content is greatly reduced.

I would enjoy a better search capability, but...I wouldn’t change anything.
You've been here about as long as I have -- 20 years -- and while a lot of snazzy, glitzy website developments have come (and gone), FR keeps cranking along with its admittedly unspectacular but utterly straightforward, functional interface.
This is a Conservative site. Does it surprise you that its interface might be entirely suitable and appropriate?
I am thankful daily for JimRob's FreeRepublic, I am grateful for JohnRob's hard work in putting it together and keeping it running, and as a computer systems engineer and IT security person of 50 years, I'm not inclined to suggest breaking something that is working just fine, whose limitations are far exceeded by its positive attributes.
Had a work mate years ago who hated the phrase ‘high-tech’ and said the best solution to any problem is something called ‘appropriate-tech’.

I like it just the way it is. If you want invasion of your privacy, lots of SPAM, and the feel of being petted, go to FaceBook or X

FR is fine as is. They run it very efficiently based on their budget size every quarter.
Why not ask the Robinsons? I would like to see a “view” counter at least, but that is up to Jimbo.

Most features slow a site down. FR has been running super fast.

dont fix what aint broke. FRs layout is THE best!! I hate all others because you have to navigate to read replies to replies. if you dont like it, go else where. I for one say IT STAYS THE WAY IT IS!!
In business it’s adapt or die. Brave New World out there people. Think about how many once Great American companies are no more.
FR is primarily a simple text interface that is geared toward content rather than meaningless flash and “style”. I find its simplicity refreshing.
But if you think it sucks, be sure to tell the owner ...
Sure, but mostly it's unnecessary. You might be surprised how effective this is: Open a Google search and type in something like:
site:freerepublic.com [your_search_string_here]Surely you know that everything on the FR forums is available on the public internet?
