We either go bankrupt or we go to subscription only or we need to get busy today.
Thanks. I generally donate at the start of every FReepathon to get it started. I gave extra today beccuse it’s on my mind we are so far behind.
I don’t think that’s the reason….

It does get tiring hearing from propagandists. It doesn't make me leave though - I don't want to give FR to our enemies. They are here, shilling because FR is effective in the information war. If they weren't 'shelling us' with trash, we'd know we weren't a threat to their psyops. Charging them a subscription would be fine with them because many are paid. During the Plandemic we had paid pharama shills here.
The paid shills would remain (their boss pays their subscription), those on tight fixed incomes would leave, those FReepers who remain would carry more of the burden of funding than they do now. Once people have a paid subscription, they then threaten to leave if management doesn't do whta they want. They already do that now, saying "I'm no longer donating because...", it's just with paid subscriptions they'd act like they deserve a refund and a 'right to speak to the manager'.
Have you stopped beating your wife?
Thanks for responding, Jim.

Well given it is free to use, I don't see the problem. I guess if you have subscriptions then lots of requirements kick in, with people saying, "Well I paid for it so I should review the books."
Plenty of people are grateful for what the Robinson family provides - serving our country and free speech through thick and thin. Among that horde, those with the funds pay to support FR willingly, with gratitude, whenever they can.
Idk if I am paying to arm North Korean special forces lol.
What a needlessly caustic, insulting thing to say. And you mock the religion forum for their hostility?

Allowing for ads would certainly help pay the bills. To add to this point, the companies that do advertise on FR would likely be the ones who aren't pushing the woke agenda. You'd be doing us a favor by letting us know who they are.
Companies that advertise on FR would find themselves stripped of customers as the Dem Censorship regime kicks in and vilifies anyone supporting conservatives.
During the Plandemic, Twitter was censored re the 'vaccines' and any company advertising on FR would have been stripped and threatened for "supporting a website that supports vaccine hesitancy which will kill us all..."

I’m afraid if FR goes subscription it would go to $100/mo. and then die from lack of subscriptions.......
Yes. I believe fewer people would subscribe and those who couldn't post would cease to donate, so monthly per person fees would go way up beyond what is normal for a website.
We’re not going bankrupt. And anytime I found myself in doubt and start worrying about finances, I have to remember that God does not want us to worry about these things. He will provide. I also have to remember that we are going into battle protected by the Armor of God, and as long as it’s his battle that we’re fighting we will be fine. It’s a battle of faith like David against Goliath. No one said it’s gonna be easy. Keep the faith.
Too many cheap bastards who use the site but never contribute. “I don’t like the tone. Too much trolling.” Just like people who don’t tithe at church. “I don’t like the pastor’s tie. We don’t sing hymns anymore.” Cheap bastards who’ll always find a way to keep their grubby coins in their purse.
Amen, Boss Man.
“Childish ad hominems make the forum less attractive.”
Some truth to that from my experience. On one side there are some that pretend this problem doesn’t exist. On the other side there are those that leave the place with crocodile tears.
I am in between. I accept that in any group there will be jerks. However it does seem to have gotten worse over the years. I suspect that may contribute to the funding shortages but I really have no way of knowing.
I would vote for a subscription site. Many of us already voluntarily subscribe as it is. That might also reduce some of the riff-raff but I am not sure.
Thanks. I just saw the deficit and panicked I guess. I just wanted to light a fire under some of the freeloaders and some of them have outed themselves on this thread. Bless you and I will try to worry less (my wife constantly is on me about that) and strive for more faith. God bless.
Does anyone know why donations are down?
I responded with a truthful and accurate answer.

That statement, conflated with my "Zeepers and Foreigners" answer falsely makes my answer appear to include a desire to leave FR. I never have had any desire to leave Free Republic.
If YOU don't want to leave Free Republic, and YOU want to improve the site to attract monetary support,
why don't YOU work toward removing admittedly abusive Zeepers and Foreigners first?
I have done so by exposing them.
yes!!! the bloggers and website folk should have to pay extra. thats just nonsense.
According to the financial report, it costs about $27,000 a month to run Free Republic.
How many Freepers are there? If one thousand Freepers paid twenty seven dollars a month, then that would cover it.
Are there a thousand people registered on this site?
If Free Republic is losing money, something’s got to give.

That's part of the effectiveness of trolling. A friend has been a long-time fan of GAB, even when he had to wade through trash posted there (anti-Semitic). He says these days, it's just too sickening to wade through.
So trolls also target funding, hoping to drive away donors by any means possible.
But limiting (troll) speech drives away many, if not more, too. There's overlap between FReeper genuine opinions and trolls; trolls appropriate FReeper opinions and then weaponize them. Limiting troll opinion on issue X alienates patriotic FReepers who share part or all of opinion X.
I've noticed is FR has caused me to become much better at rebutting leftists by allowing them limited range here.
The left can't rebut the right because they are ideologically protected by the MSM; their stunted capacity to debate has further atrophied in the media hothouse. But the right is often out in the big bad forest and comes across trolls/MSM and other propagandists, and learns how to rebut them by trial and error.
Just rebutting trolls helps refine my thinking. I KNOW they are wrong, but having to put into words WHY on a moment's notice has improved my ability to do so gently in the real world. I can (usually) now see the underlying tactics a mile away, thanks to FR. I never developed enough of that skill anywhere else. THANK YOU, FREE REPUBLIC!

It would be good for all of us to know. How much does it cost to operate Free Republic. What donation level is needed to break even. Do the Robinsons pay themselves salaries from this site? Is it someone’s forty plus hour a week job to operate this site? Are there salaried employees who are monitors of the site? These are all questions that potential donors may ask.
Investors might, but on a free site where you are asked to donate if you like the work? I don't think so. Free Republic has worked forabout 27-30 years without the need for monitoring.
Auditing Free Republic will not help fund those who lost their jobs, businesses, homes as a result of the Plandemic, or those who became ill or had to care for family members who experienced vax harm. Biden was CRUSHING our economy as much as he could and it has financially stressed donors.
Are there a thousand people registered on this site?
.....
Better question.
Are there 1000 people using the site regularly?
