Ok, I just kicked in some extra cash. can everyone else pony up a sawbuck?
Does anyone know why donations are down?
I think this monthly tug-of-war is problematic.
I’ll take the subscription option.
I had a coworker who did work in the church they attended. She noted that when inflation kicked up or people felt the economy was suffering, contributions dropped.
Doing the same thing over and over does not make it better.
Change the pitch.....a lot of these people are very smart. They will tend to be the ones who have money and will/can contribute.
How about some metrics?

Monthly logins or view or whatever....?
Establish your real user base and give us a personal budget subscription amount...
I give $20/mo....I have no idea if that is good or bad or what.
I have been a lurker and spot payer since 1995?
A log-in and continuous payer since 2011?
It has been my go-to site since 95, and other than EPOCH, the only one I pay for.
I did my part a couple days ago.
I’d prefer the subscription option as well. With it, FR has a better chance of surviving, with the added benefit it will rid us of many of the trolls posting here.

There was a thread recently on this subject.
A few people said they would never give money to Free Republic, because the tone of this site has really gone downhill. There’s a lot of negativity and bizarre stuff on the site. There’s a lot of personal attacks and criticisms of other posters, which hardly will attract new donors. There are purist conservatives with whom it’s impossible to have a conversation.
Why is there such a desire not to have advertisers on Free Republic? Allowing for ads would certainly help pay the bills.
Personally, I’d love to see financial statements on this site. How much does it cost to operate this site, and how much when donations are received? How much do the Robinsons personally contribute to keep this site going?
If I had a vote, I would vote for a subscription, only site. There would be fewer participants that way, but hopefully, the quality of the discourse would improve, if people actually had money on the line. There would be far fewer bizarre and personal insult type comments, if we all had to pay to belong to this site. What I don’t know is what’s and how many subscribers , at what fee level , would be needed to keep this site going.
I think to a great degree, it is the hostility on the forum. If you are even somewhat critical of the state of Israel, you are viciously labeled an antisemite. If you don’t support the US funding Ukraine, you’re a Putin puppet. Honest open debate is one thing. Childish ad hominems make the forum less attractive. I really think that is what is going on. Also, agent provocateurs like FUZZ need to be shown the door.
I’ll be increasing my annual contribution.
One suggestion. There are far too many posts of articles from leftist publications and posts of nothing more than what some crazy leftist says. This material merely induces a lot of useless venting by our troops.

You’ve hit the nail on the head. There does seem to be hostility on this site. There are ad hominem attacks on other posters.
There is anecdotal evidence that a lot of long time Freepers have disappeared from this site. I wouldn’t be surprised if some left because of the negativity here.
If financially feasible, Free Republic should be a subscription only site. If the Robinsons are determined not to have ads here, then the only source of money is going to be those of us who participate here.

Know your enemy. I want to see posts from the opposite side. I don't want FR to just be an echo chamber.
