How To Resolve The Trump Musk Feud
Vanity | 6/4/2025 | Vanity

In politics, they say you want your people all peeing out of the tent rather than into it.

In this context, there is a case to be made for assigning Elon Musk a new task to keep his mind off the budget and keep him focused and on point.

Here is the assignment. Give him a contract to develop the desalination technology that will increase the habitable size of the USA by one-third and double the habitable size of the Earth. This can be achieved by collapsing the cost of desalinating seawater to roughly $ 200 per acre-foot. (That would make it economic to farm any desert on earth and place data and server farms-- as well as mango and avocado orchards--in the US deserts.) And if Musk wants to, he can make the technology dual-use. That is, the technology will work on both Earth and Mars.

Do you think this project would achieve the political ends mentioned above while advancing Trump's policy aims?

Disagree. Musk has clearly stated that our spending is an existential problem for the country. He’s committed to help making that happen. What was the point of DOGE after all if not to identify ways to make substantial cuts to spending?

1. Fat chance that he did.

2. I thought we were opposed to the government selectively targeting its critics. Or was that only during a Democrat administration?

As if Musk is looking for more projects...

He made a contribution to help the US, because if the US goes down the world will be a terrible place.

Thanks for taking the hit, Elon!

This appears to be stupid.

These two men are some of the smartest which have ever been United States Citizens

Elon saved the Country by his alliance with Trump.

He sees the spending in the One Big Beautiful Bill as an enormous threat to the Republic. So do most Conservatives.

Something is going on here behind the scenes.

Best analysis so far. That being said, I hope they have a huddle, laugh about it and put everyone who made something out of nothing to shame.

“No one can run a government the way they can run a private company.”

A not insignificant reason that Donald Trump is our president is the expectation that government CAN be run along the lines of a business.

Actually his US origin story is pretty fishy.

And he’s always been a scumbag in my book. Past time for him to go.

Musk made a personal attack on Trump accusing him of being at Epstein island as if he was there and was a pervert.

It isn’t true, Trump was never involved in that Epstein stuff and Elon knows it. All Elon did was give fodder to left wing journos.

That is treachery to a friendship. There can be no further trust.

yep, everyone just needs to calm down Elon and Trump included.

Everyone involved just needs to get a good nights sleep, and calm the hell down.

This feels more like a big distraction and Elon will take the fall for the bill not being passed.

De-desalinization requires a lot of electricity...

Best to develop miniature nuclear power generators in a 40 ft shipping container.

The US power grid is already stretched.

What with electric cars and AI....a lot more energy is required.

I’m not championing the guy, but what exactly is fishy about his story?

sheesh. too bad you’re the only guy who gets it.

My guess is that the idea is too far outside the box for most guys to appreciate...judging by all the responses on the thread.

Truthfully I don’t know what is in that bill other than it will raise the debt by a trillion.

I don’t like that. At all.

Fix the bill but I don’t think it ever had a chance to pass, anyway. Too many dems, a pocketful of rhinos and nuthing happens.

He didn’t realize how sausage is made.

He doesn’t understand the rules.

I agree that sometimes the rules in Congress are silly these days. But it is what it is.

I’m not against more spending cuts.

My guess is that Musk’s comments will cause more spending cuts.

Curious, just a few days ago the dimrat mantra was Trump's diminishing mental capacity.

Something is fishy here, there are no coincidences in that cesspool of politics in the beltway. IMO this wasn't supposed to turn against Musk.

That appears to be the purpose... It might diffuse some of the attacks on Tesla, as well...
