I’m leary with most commercial products especially on an older cat
In Ohio I went to a Chinese herbalist in Akron for this and other things for me
She didn’t speak much English, didn’t have phone, but was always home. Her relatives bringing food etc

Our cats don’t have fleas...for now. I think our drought conditions keep them away. Just like it has crickets, frogs, katydids and even most cicadas.
You should probably ask a vet or see if one near you sells something. Coming from a doctor’s office, it should be safe.
