Maine father says he also saves thousands per month on food expenses
Justin Dudley, 48, tipped the scales at 343 pounds and a size XXXXL at his heaviest after years of carb-loading took a toll.
The self-confessed "fast-food addict" says he followed every meal with dessert — and that he spent anywhere from $1,600 to $2,400 per month on ice cream, chips and candy. In April 2024, Dudley decided enough was enough. The single dad’s only son, Ethan, was set to graduate high school that spring, according to the SWNS report.

So, just stop eating $1,600 to $2,400 per month on ice cream, chips and candy.
REally!?!?! They can do that now? I thought that was only for temporary covering.
Im sure my unclew wish he would have been able to get that. Well, thats a few decades back. The moral of his story is dont go out to the machine shed to find mason jars full of gasoline to clean your brushes while holding a kerosene lantern and standing in a puddle of old tractor oil.
When I hear people say “oh ya, if a person has burns over more than X% they always die,” I know its BS. He had 3rd degree almost everywhere other than his ass so thats all the surgeons had to work with.
He came to live with us because we lived closest to the most advanced hospital in the state at the time. He was was really bad off, to the point that his tendons were shortened from being cooked. We helped him with therapy every day when he was allowed to. After they took the pins out of his fingers, that was a lot of work because there so many tiny tendons in there.
Before he had sort of a young John Travolta thing going one and had a lot of lady friends. Afterwards not so much, those kind of burns are forever.
“Can’t get through the “allow ads on Fox News” which I’m not willing to do, but how did the guy lose the weight? How long did it take?”
Common sense. Stop being a glutton and get out and exercise.
Okay...the other dirty magic bullet for me was when I stopped drinking beer, which was a huge deal in the 80's and 90s - beer was involved in every activity with others - golf, boating, fishing, weekend gathering at a friends, nights at the local watering hole with the guys. Then I switched to bourbon and, still to this day, enjoy a glass or two when the day is over.
Back when I did stop drinking beer, the weight actually came off fast and I had loose skin in areas - but the body adjusted over the next few years. The body is actually an amazing, miraculous, God-given machine if we give it the chance!
No, but I’m not gaining any back either. I am paying for attention to it though.
I once had a neighbor who was very fat. He waddled when he walked. His brother lived a couple of doors down and was some what fat but he worked outdoors repairing rails.
I saw the fat brother always bringing home or getting delivered fast food. He did have exercise equipment but if you are eating fast food you will not lose weight.
If I cut out the chips and bread and ice cream I would lose any weight around the middle.
Probably the chips and bread more so.
I always considered ice cream as an acceptable treat because it tends to have fewer carbs and less sugar than other stuff, and has the benefit of having some protien and fat.
Nutritionally, it seems to be the best for treats the occasional indulgence.
The sugar in beer is mainly maltose - which can be a very troublesome carb. Depending on how much you consume, giving up beer alone should result in some weight loss.
