Colorado city is set to seize residents' pet cats and dogs

A Colorado city plans to seize residents' pet cats and dogs in a bid to limit the number of animals allowed in households.

On August 1, pet owners in Northglenn - about 40 minutes outside of Denver - will not be allowed to have more than four cats, dogs, or a combination of the two 'totaling no more than four.'

The new pet ordinance was recently approved by the city council 'at the request of residents and after extensive research and discussion,' the city said.

The restriction was introduced after concerned residents complained of 'excessive noise and waste caused by a high number of pets in some neighborhoods.'

Any residents who currently own more pets than allowed can apply for a 'previously owned pet exception' before the ordinance comes into effect.

If the application is filled out before that date, Northglenn citizens will be allowed to keep their 'existing pets.'

Residents have to specify their pet's name, age, sex, breed and date they were brought into the home in the application.

If locals do not disclose this information and have more than the allowed number of pets in their home, the city will take 'enforcement action,' which includes 'a potential court order requiring pet removal.'

At least for cats that are kept indoors, that’s problematic.

But FWIW, I once lived in a townhouse next door to a hoarder who also hoarded animals – over 6 dogs, an untold number of cats, none of them fixed and more and more, and the stench and noise was unbearable and the roaches and mice infestations that was coming into my home, forced me and some other neighbors to call code enforcement.

Judging by the outrage expressed on this thread, these folks would be totally fine with that situation.

They do not want any restrictions whatsoever to how many animals they may keep or under what conditions.

If your dog has puppies, what do you do?

Did you read the article? In its entirety?

Your post indicates to me that you did not.

But I’m guessing they’ve never lived next door to a hoarder.

Or a clown house.

Dear MIL lived next to one with 15-20 illegal aliens living in a 1,200 sq. ft. house.

The street was clogged with parked cars and the stench of their trash can was really bad. Mexicans don't flush their used toilet paper. They throw it into the trash.

It was so bad that the city stepped in a instituted a parking permit system the limited the number of permits that a household could acquire to two. Any cars parked on the street without a permit would be subject to towing and impound.

Was never a problem after that.

I guess how would someone know you have cats if they are indoor cats? Do they see a cat in the window? See the homeowner carry in litter?

The issue is - what is the injury to the community with having cats that are exclusively indoors?

When cats are outlawed, only outlaws will have cats.

How will this work when a dog or cat has puppies/kittens?
Will members of the family who identify as "Furries"Be sent to the pound if it puts the number over the threshold?
But Canadian Grey Wolves are okay, right? No limits on those?

Wait, wait wait a minute here! What about the animal's preferred name and gender of the day? This is the new Colorado after all. It's a fact that there are 187 animal genders. (Trust the science) How can they pigeonhole a pet into a fixed cisgender patriarchical role? Do they really want Fido, aka Fifi to be "dead-named?" Clearly they have not thought this through.

Had you bothered to read the entire article, you'd know that Northglenn is the only city in Adams County that didn't have this animal restriction in place. The other cities in the county have had this restriction in place for many years.

Why does that matter? Maybe they can just pass an ordinance that says "We hereby adopt all ordinances that other places have." Or do you just like to blast other Freepers for your perceived indiscretions? Maybe they read it but disagree with Northglenns practice?

But again I ask, if all these liberals are leaving blue states and turning red states blue, why don’t the blue states they come from ever turn at least purple? Liberals don’t end to have a lot of kids so where are they all coming from?

As a victim of this phenomena it is something that I watch. California does seem to be getting a bit more purple. Even Newscum is having to pretend to be more conservative. I fear for Texas. So many are moving there. Put up a wall before it's too late Texas FRiends.

Why does that matter?

It doesn't matter to me what ordinances another city passes. I call it self-determination. You call it being a 'Karen.'

Next up... Too many children running around making noise and causing havoc.

Yep so ordered by city ordnance - only 4 children allowed per city block - residential neighborhoods with more that 4 children can apply for exemptions - those that do not will have enforcement actions taken again the excess children.

If your female dog has a litter of puppies you are now an enemy of the people!

You already were an enemy of the people for not getting your female dog spayed. Such negligence requires an additional penalty.

Depends if the City Council folks are allergic to cats.
