How will this work when a dog or cat has puppies/kittens?
Will members of the family who identify as "Furries"Be sent to the pound if it puts the number over the threshold?
But Canadian Grey Wolves are okay, right? No limits on those?
I would ask why are they not “fixed”?
It breaks my heart to see so many unwanted dogs and cats in shelters waiting for homes. And no, not every dog in a shelter is a pit bull or an otherwise dangerous dog or deranged feral cat.
I am not against the responsible and yes, licensed and regulated breeding of pure-bred dogs and cats but people who have multiple un-fixed dogs and cats that allow them to breed uncontrolled is a problem. As are shady back yard “puppy mills”.
Many years ago, a friend of mine lost her cat, so her then boyfriend brought her 2 kittens (I don’t recall if he bought them at a pet store or found them as strays), male and female siblings.
She didn’t take them to the vet to get them fixed in time and didn’t realize how soon a female cat goes into heat and soon had + 4 kittens and decided to keep them all then another litter and then another and soon she had well over a dozen cats that she struggled to take care of or find other homes for and some because of the close inbreeding many had health problems, some litters had one or two kittens die right after birth.
When she and her boyfriend got married and moved into a rental townhouse, he had a dog that hated cats and the landlord who would not allow more than one dog or cat so despite trying to find homes for them she ended up taking all the cats to a shelter, a kill shelter where they were all euthanized.
She cried and cried and cried. Then finally admitted that she’d had the first two cats fixed when she first got them, this would not have happened.
