Samples drilled from deep beneath the sea have revealed just how much global sea levels changed following the last ice age.
Melting ice caps in North America, Antarctica and Europe caused sea levels to rise quickly as temperatures warmed after the last ice age. But researchers have lacked robust geological data from this period, so how much sea levels climbed was unknown.
Now, new geological data show that sea levels rose about 125 feet (38 meters) between 11,000 and 3,000 years ago, according to a study published March 19 in the journal Nature. The findings could help scientists and policymakers understand what to expect as today's ice sheets respond to a warming climate.
In pursuit of these records, an international team of scientists turned to a relatively shallow area of the North Sea covering "Doggerland," the land bridge that connected the U.K. to mainland Europe until about 7000 years ago. The researchers drilled samples of peat, or partially decomposed plant matter, from beneath the sea.
Doggerland was home to coastal marshlands during the ice age, but rising waters and marine sediments submerged and compressed the marshes as sea levels rose. The team analyzed the different elements and types of microalgae in the peat to work out how sea levels changed.

Oh noes!!!!!!!!!
But, not surprisingly, Froggerland adapted to the changes.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. The LAST Ice Age??? Are they saying that Earf has spells of warmings and coolings?
Global Warming. That was after the Global Cooling, which was called an ice age.
And in some areas the level has gone down. A hundred twenty five feet? It would have flooded Bedloe’s Island, where the Statue of Liberty stands. Then too, 0bama bought ‘another’ house near the ocean shore.
I always thought the rise was about 400 feet.
Ice at the south pole is on a land mass (like Greenland). Ice at the north pole is sea ice (remember when the first nuclear submarine Nautilus drove under the ice at north Pole and other US subs have broken through the ice).
Now THAT’S Global warming!
Thanks for posting. I have spent a few cycles studying the Eemian interglacial, the one prior to the Holocene we are in right now.
In the Eemian not only were sea levels higher, temperatures were higher and CO2 was much less than today. CO2 was 280ppm and around 427ppm now.
The left knows all this and use these CO2 comparisons to describe how bad off we are now because of the industrial age.
However they ignore the obvious point that the planet was hotter and seas were higher with much much lower CO2 levels. It did this all on its own without SUVs and excessive CO2. This is not millions of years ago this is just 130K or less years ago.

How many internal combustion engines were there? Air conditioners? Hair spray?
What about Noah’s flood?
0.2124โ per year? Really, that the concern?
Must have been the First Age Of SUVs.

Those silly Neanderthals were addicted to high performance SUV’s. They probably ran on peat and only got 10 miles to a peat clump.
So the earth is going to get all frozen again, and the good beaches are going to be 100 down below sea level now. Good to get good estate futures.
“An Ice Age is scheduled to follow”
Climate Change scientists of the 1970s are still correct.
It adds up over the decades....
“Stupid conclusion. They cannot predict the weather 5 days in the future.”
Don’t be dumb eustatic sea level rise is part of a interglacial period. It’s quantifiable as this study clearly shows. Don’t give the right a bad name by being ignorant. It’s not about prediction it’s about verifiable evidence of sea level rise which there clearly is. Glaciers grow sea level falls , glaciers melt sea levels rise its very clear.
Thanks yesthatjallen. Nice twofer!
Going west out of Honolulu on Farrington highway along the Pacific Ocean, the road comes to an end just before reaching the Pipeline surfing area. Just before it ends, it goes by a large cave some 50 feet above the ocean shoreline. A sign by the cave says it was formed by ocean waves when the ocean was that high during a time when the earth was warmer than it is now. There were no SUVs then.
