There’s going to be Hell to pay if the MTA doesn’t get its way — again.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Wednesday threatened another “Summer of Hell” if the Big Apple doesn’t continue ponying up big bucks — even as a recent watchdog study warned the city’s payments keep snowballing.
Not to mention New Yorkers are set to get burned even harder with subway and bus fares getting hiked up to $3 in August. […]
The proposed plan to fix the deteriorating, aging subway system assumes New York City will cough up $4 billion, but that amount could increase as the state budget isn’t final and federal support is up in the air under new President Trump.
“Many components are falling apart and need to be replaced or preserved,” Jai Patel, MTA Co-Chief Financial officer told councilmembers. “If we don’t do this critical work, it’s not an exaggeration that we will be looking at another ‘Summer of Hell.’” …

Typical for ANY union-run operation. Nothing new here.
It’s government-run. The unions just exist to browbeat their membership.
but can’t we avoid this by allowing congestion pricing to persist?? /s
I bet PDJT and EM already have a contingency plan to save it IF NYC “cooperates”.
Soros needs to find a place for this Summer’s loser Encampment Headache. With Columbia University in flux NYC is most likely going to be the destination. I bet the basement dwellers are already airing out their tents and contacting the losers from last year to reconnect.
“subway and bus fares getting hiked up to $3 in August.”
Aren’t most people not paying already? Cops won’t enforce this.
Oh the glory of democrat rule.
This here is another reason mass transit will never catch on in the US. You are totally at the will of government and union stooges.
All of this transit in the USA originated in the private sector and was constructed by it. It was municipal and state governments that subsequently forced these private companies to charge artificially-low unprofitable fares that would bankrupt them and force a transfer into the public sector.
Proves my point. It will end up being the public sector and with unions. YOU will be a slave to them and their whims...
Interest side point. The first time I went to Orlando sometime in the 90’s, they had 3 bus services, one run by the city and 2 others.
Within 5 years or so, they were back to one. I think the city took them over.
That’s been going on in New Jersey for decades. I remember a plethora of private bus companies running alongside NJ Transit, not just on the NYC commuter lines but also the local transit lines. Now NJT’s taken them all over; the last historic name to fall was DeCamp Bus Lines, with the COVID-1984 lockdowns and subsequent work-from-home as excuses for people not riding the buses (even though NJT is still running the routes).
