Apparently the “Hold Short of” part of pushing tin has become patriarchal bitterness, and is now optional.
I want that person to be my pilot!
Thanks for that!
I remember when that happened. I was on the last plane coming over from the UK before they all got turned around. I was four hours late and had an adventure getting from JFK to Maryland.
Right before Trump took over a plane preparing to land almost hit into a plane starting to go across their runway. BTW, the entire Gonzaga basketball team was on the plane crossing the runway. Came close to having a Marshall nightmare.
I was in a “landing” like that. Expecting a touchdown, but then hear those engines roar, up she goes.
I figured something like this had happened. No sense of fear, though, because whatever *it* was, *it* was down there and we were up here. Well all riighty then..
Turned out it was wacky wind. The pilot realized that the plane was about to be smashed into the pavement so how about no.
He kept apologizing to everyone as we departed the cabin.
Sorry ‘bout that folks!
Good, we can find out more details.
All those DEI hires are still working. Kind of like sleeper cells.
Exactly!!
“This is WZAZ in Chicago, where disco lives forever!”
I had a similar experience landing in Ohaire Airport. We changed from a landing approach to a rapid vertical climb. All the power went out at the airport and there was no Air Traffic Control or any runway lights. The pilot decided the safest place to go was straight up.
We had to divert to a different airport. They apologized for the inconvenience. We were just glad to be alive.
It seems that Google didn’t hear the news. When I searched for two planes almost collided over Chicago then nothing recent came up.
Apparently the ATC audio is available (I’ve not heard it), and a reader comment at the Herald suggests that mastery of basic aviation English might have been an issue.
Makes me wonder if the tail number of the biz jet begins with Nβ¦
Ground controller better be fired instantly.
South West pilot had his eyes out of the cockpit for sure.
Landing at Honolulu once and some 747 pilot just landed sat on the runway unsure where to go
Our pilot did what this South West guy did, rammed the power on, aborted, and kept going.
Tower raised hell with the guy sitting on the runway.
As we climbed out without directions, pilot asks ATC, “What do you want me to do?”
A guy I knew back then had a dad who was middle management at the FAA in ATL. He went into the replacement ATC training program and ended up moving to Anchorage and doing a full career as a Federal ATC up there.
This apparently happened before DIE was the prescribed manner for the approach. π
>>>As we climbed out without directions, pilot asks ATC, βWhat do you want me to do?β<<<
ATC: First, Change your underwear...........
Example: I am about to cross the active runway so maybe I should look to see if anyone is on final.
When you land at a naval air station the tower/ATC require the old “Landing check list complete. Ready for the go round.”
Fixed it.
