As I understand it - too much rainfall can erode the earth and wash away ground cover leaving the area wide open and ripe for wildfires.
I saw this first hand in Colorado. I imagine the same thing is true here in California.
Fox News 11 just interviewed a LAUSAD School Board member who the reporters, etc. were quite familiar with about schools that had been damaged etc.
[Nick] Melvoin’s campaign was criticized for receiving significant third-party spending support to defeat Zimmer, including the Walton family who spent more than $5 million for his campaign. The election itself was also criticized for being what was believed to be the most expensive school board election in U.S. history.
I dare say not one local reporter or newscaster in southern Maine could even name the Portland school board chair or identify her in a line up.
Nick Melvoin lost the dem primary for the 2024 congressional district, but it looks like he is running for his next office.
After the segment, the newscaster told the truth. LAUSAD school are needed to be open because they provide childcare to so many children. Not education, but childcare.
A rational country would prosecute the “leadership” of LA County and California for gross malfeasance and hold them personally responsible for the deaths that have occurred.
Government at all levels has very few basic responsibilities. Providing, maintaining, and protecting the critical infrastructure that holds our society together being among those. Water, sewers, police to maintain order, honest courts to punish the evil among us, and fire protection are examples.
When those in charge of these things allow totally foreseeable events to cause billions of dollars in property damage and deaths of the citizens they’ve sworn to protect they need to pay a heavy price for their failure.
If we were living in better days, and if they had any honor, they’d admit their failures publicly and then fall on their swords.
Sadly, we no longer live in such days.

Lots of rain also causes grasses and annual weeds to grow ... like weeds. Once they go to seed they dry up rapidly and burn like gasoline.
I am pretty sure that was the initial cause of the out of control fires in Louisville, CO. We had a very wet May and June that year and the land just south of the Boulder Turnpike, where the fire began, has long been a large expanse of undeveloped open fields.
The fire was then fanned by 100 mph winds. Nothing can stop a fire with wind like that behind it. No firefighting force can keep up with it or get in front of it to slow it down.
DEI = DIE
When there are drought conditions, fire danger increases. When there’s a lot of rain...plants grow, die, and there’s increased fire danger. They play that game with us constantly, on Oregon’s coast.
Because God must have a starting point for the cleansing of the Country and the corrupt ones. I’m really surprised that it wasn’t nyc.

I have much to add abou the Delta Smelt case tomorrow.
I personally was in the middle of the Bastrop Fire of 2011.
Beautiful hot dry sunny day with wind gusts of 30mph. Those pine trees went up in flames like matches.
Me and Mrs. R2 were camping out at Bastrop State Park. We loaded up our RV and made it out with an hour to spare.
makes sense
Above normal rain also makes lots of brush. The commies here make brush clearing almost a crime as if they want wildfires…
Thank you... and for those who prayed for me. I felt those prayers and God has been close to me the past few days.
wow
For AM bump!
Yikes! Glad you and Mrs. R2 had your heads on swivels and acted swiftly.
Pine forests burn like crazy, especially if there are standing dead trees in the mix. The green trees go up pretty easily too. But they don’t burn nearly as intensely as old dried brush, grasses and forbs. I think those are a lot of the problem in CA in these fires. Even without wind fire will move pretty fast through that stuff.
With all the restrictions of gas powered pumps and ordinance against clearing of dry combustibles in the hills, and the sudden cancellation and denial of insurance, this appears to be a planned burn.
And the fire-girls were set for a fall.
I do not like to see women in a mans’ job
Especially when they so obviously can not even attempt to pass the physical
But that is dirty
