Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D), who was on a trip to Ghana when fire engulfed large portions of the city, cut nearly $20 million from the city’s budget for fire services for the current fiscal year — and proposed even higher cuts.
As the Westside Current reported in April 2024, Bass proposed about $23 million in cuts to the fire department:
Significantly, the proposal — described by Bass a “reset” — includes $65 million in cuts to her signature Inside Safe homelessness] program; an increase of more than $138 million for the Los Angeles Police Department; and a decrease of about $23 million for the L.A. Fire Department.
…
However, the proposal would increase funding for the fire department to support the Emergency Appointment Paramedic Program, with city officials noting the LAFD responds to more calls for service related to medical emergencies than other categories.
In addition, another $2.5 million would bring new equipment and technology updates for the LAFD, prompted by the aftermath fire beneath the Santa Monica (10) Freeway that forced a temporary close of the road.

Hey, Karen needs that money for illegal alien welfare.
The tragedy is that they still refuse to change how they vote. Stuck on stupid? Yellow Dog Commie?
Because the most they will do is abandon the sewer they create and move to a civilized state. But they still vote Self-Destruct.
Amazing.
Is she on her way back? Is she in Ghana on official business?
You can’t make this up:
I don’t watch much TV, but noticed that our local cable provider has started showing multiple evening re-runs of the 1960s/early 1970s shows “Adam 12” and “Emergency!”
Every show has a few scenes where the cops/firefighters are driving around the streets of LA. Streets are clean, not a lot traffic, and no homeless tents!
Well, that makes total sense seeing as HER part of CA is ablaze!
Thousands flee as wildfires burn out of control in and around Los Angeles
By the time she gets back from her vacation, she is not going to have a city to be mayor of.
So, this may hurt her chances to become a US Senator or next Governor?
Those whose homes are in ashes, I genuinely regret your loss. But still have to point out you voted for incompetence, you stupid bastards
Two reasons:
Methinks the second point is by far the most important, you just can't make enough land and infrastructure to keep up with massive immigration, and California is our future unless we put a 50 year moratorium on all immigration immediately.
Wonder if FEMA is going to offer them tents to live in like the poor souls in North Carolina.
The harsh reality is that pouring water on burning and soon to burn buildings is a futile exercise because of these hurricaine level dry winds. The firefighters are heroic and are to be commended for the evacuation of people from the path of nature’s fury. When this is over a large part of LA will resemble Hiroshima after the bomb was dropped. America’s enemies now realize that when these Santa Ana winds are predicted, it would take only a few well placed arsonists to create a holocaust.
No money for the L.A. fire department but enough money to fly to Ghana (Africa).
….And gave the money to who?
Left americans learn nothing. The only change they make is to spread their stupidity and destruction. California is the future of America in time.
Shame about James Woods...only decent person out there.
LA fires will chase another few thousands out of state, most surely those faced with rebuilding.
It’s the public sector unions(teachers, etc) , recipients of city contracts, and city government workers who vote for the Dems... that’s enough to win the election. The smart and rich don’t live in L.A. to a great extent. They live in small decently run cities just next door.
L.A. government is a cesspool of stupidity and graft.
Remember 2/3rds of the West Side Voted for both Bass and Biden. I feel sorry for the normal people that are caught up in this man made disaster
