Stonehenge mystery is SOLVED after 5,000 years - as scientists finally crack why the mysterious monument was built
Daily Mail UK ^ | December 19, 2024 | Jonathan Chadwick

Why the mighty Stonehenge was built around 5,000 years ago has long been one of the great mysteries.

But according to a new study, we may finally have an answer.

Scientists say Wiltshire's famous stone circle was built as a symbol of unification between three distinct corners of Britain.

We know that Stonehenge's rocky slabs were transported as far afield from southwest Wales and northeast Scotland.

So the scientists, from University College London and Aberystwyth University, theorise that Scottish and Welsh people brought their own local stones down to Wiltshire as a well-meaning contribution to assembling the structure.

In that sense, it represented a powerful – and very early – symbol of British unity.

Stonehenge's builders had attempted to establish 'political unification and shared identity across much or even all of Britain', the authors say in their paper, published in Archaeology International.

How would scientists come to such conclusions? That’s not science.

They have an unerring talent for finding scientific proof of currently trendy beliefs. This claim seems to say "The builders of Stonehenge would never have approved of Brexit!" :)

This story hits rock bottom as regards accuracy. King Arthur would be STUNED to finally get the truth. Sir Lancelot had told him it was a concert venue for the Stone Temple Pilots, where they performed "Rock Lobster" and "Everybody Must Get Stuned."

It's actually ... Stuned Henge.

Symbol of unity?

Why would they need a symbol of unity?

Perhaps the Brits had some knowledge of what was happening on the continent as the steppe herders from the east pushed across Europe.

What do they say? Within 100-200 years after stonehenge was built——it was abandoned as a huge population displacement took place in England as the steppe herders moved in.

Thanks for the ping.

True visionaries were at work with this one.

The real purpose is as plain as the day is long:

Tourist trap.

This sounds like using the mores of our current time to ascribe motivations to people 5,000 years ago.

Years ago my mom took a photo of me laying on that. I was in four states at the same time.

I wondered which state would have jurisdiction over any crime committed on the intersection.

Turns out it’s probably the Navajo.

"I doubt that 5000 years ago when mankind was worried about shelter, food and survival that they decided to have a Kumbaya moment and build some monument to our unification of widely distributed groups of people."

Yup. Does anyone know for sure who the people were that actually constructed it? Druids, Celtics, Anglos, Germanics, other? Was not the various peoples of main England tribal warrior/sects? Even as recent as AD, didn't the Romans have to build a wall (forget name) to separate the brutal savage Celts from Roman outposts?

I've always wondered who had control of main England back in that day. Guess I could research, but too lazy.

Just sounds like Woke History! The “We should all learn from people who came together over hundreds of miles to build a monument to Kumbaya.” Question, but aren’t all those people gone with nothing to show for the monument? So the lesson becomes don’t go woke!

"Stonehenge mystery is SOLVED after 5,000 years "

It wasn't yet a mystery 4999 years ago.

Druids, Celtics, Anglos, Germanics, other?

Other.

All the rest came along LONG after the builders of Stonehenge were dust.

There probably was a civilization or two in between as well.
