This is the healthiest vegetable of all, according to CDC: ‘Nutrient powerhouse’

When it comes to healthy eating, veggies are always a good choice — but one takes the cake for being the healthiest.

Watercress is the most nutrient-dense vegetable, receiving a perfect score of 100 in the CDC’s long-standing ranking of “powerhouse” fruits and vegetables (PFVs).

Chinese cabbage is a close second with a score of 91.99, followed by chard (89.27), beet greens (87.08) and spinach (86.43).

These foods, among a total of 41 that qualified as PFVs, were found to contain 17 nutrients, including potassium, fiber, protein, calcium, iron, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folate, zinc, and vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, E and K.

Cruciferous items, including watercress, Chinese cabbage, collard greens, kale and arugula — as well as leafy greens, like chard, beet greens, spinach, chicory and leaf lettuce — took the top spots on the list.

Yellow and orange foods, like carrots, tomatoes, winter squash and sweet potatoes — along with allium, citrus and berry croups — landed in the bottom half.

When it comes to the top veggie, watercress, nutritionists agree that it has a multitude of health benefits.

I always remember watercress sandwiches being mentioned in one of the Winnie-the-Pooh books, but I never knew what it was.

As long as we are moving from individual words to phrases, I don’t EVER want to hear “out of an abundance of caution” ever again. It’s like nails on the blackboard for me. I saw it in an article yesterday and I gagged.

Veggie is also used sometimes to refer to a person who’s a vegetarian.

The Brave AI indicates that the first recorded use of ‘veggie’ to mean ‘vegetable’ goes back to 1955; I’m still trying to find the source; but I remember seeing it in a book on vegetarianism in the 1960s.

What do you do with a watercress? All I know to do with plants like that is boil them, sprinkle them with Texas Pete green pepper vinegar on the plate. And if I worry about vitamins, sip the pot liquor from a coffee cup with a little salt.

Good memory! I vaguely recall reading that to the kids decades ago, but had to look it up. Found it in "The House at Pooh Corner":

"Now it happened that Kanga had felt rather motherly that morning, and Wanting to Count Things—like Roo’s vests, and how many pieces of soap there were left, and the two clean spots in Tigger’s feeder; so she had sent them out with a packet of watercress sandwiches for Roo and a packet of extract-of-malt sandwiches for Tigger, to have a nice long morning in the Forest not getting into mischief."

"extract-of-malt sandwiches" -- I use a bit of extract-of-malt in my bread, but a SANDWICH made with that? Yikes and ugh!

I think the English sometimes made tea sandwiches out of it, as they do with cucumber.

I’ve also made a cream of greens soup that included it.

You’ve passed the CDC test. Spinach is full of oxalic acid which forms oxalates. It’s part of the plant’s defense mechanism. I suppose that’s true for all of these. I know someone who got seriously messed up from eating too much kale all the time.

As they did with the fake vaxxes, they only tell one (supposed) side.

At $12 to $14 per pound at my local markets, watercress is a useless boutique vegetable. I’d much rather buy broccoli at 99 cents a pound on sale, and I eat a lot of it.

“Watercress is the most nutrient-dense vegetable, receiving a perfect score of 100 in the CDC’s long-standing ranking of “powerhouse” fruits and vegetables (PFVs).”

Better stay away from that one then.

I have been warned in Freepmail with the following:

“Don't poke the bear.

Mods may be made fun of, but they will zap you for a week or two if you get to personal.

Believe me from experience................”

Here is what I responded with

I don't care what the lefty pukes think. The election is over and Trump has won so I am satisfied. I am willing to die on this hill as I have better things to do than be censored by leftist pervert lovers.

Mods, please note my new tagline. Freepers, please pay attention to the behavior of the mods. If I get deleted then you know this form is managed by the controlled opposition of the left.

Appreciate it. Zeepers have ruined the place and I am tired of being censored by anyone, even lefty faggots with dry vaginas on this very forum.

I might not have replied to your comment but I want my tagline to be seen just one more time.
