Two Australian mathematicians have called into question an old adage, that if given an infinite amount of time, a monkey pressing keys on a typewriter would eventually write the complete works of William Shakespeare.
Known as the "infinite monkey theorem", the thought-experiment has long been used to explain the principles of probability and randomness.
However, a new peer-reviewed study led by Sydney-based researchers Stephen Woodcock and Jay Falletta has found that the time it would take for a typing monkey to replicate Shakespeare's plays, sonnets and poems would be longer than the lifespan of our universe.
Which means that while mathematically true, the theorem is "misleading", they say.

I heard this way back in the early 1960s in school. I NEVER BELIEVED IT for a second.
It sounds like a waste of time, but there is something to this. It actually augers for belief in a supreme creator.
Natural selection/evolution is based on the theory random changes created initial life and all permutations, including humans. This exercise proves that randomness cannot create something as simple as words strung together coherently.
“Monkeys Will Never Type Shakespeare, Study Finds”
No but they probably will produce more intelligent policies than Kamala can produce.
Unfortunately, they tend to leave the CAPS lock on.
I had always heard it as “...an infinite amount of time, AND an infinite amount of monkeys...”
” It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times.. “
Even their moms would look twice.
That’s Dickens.

"Unburdened by what has been." Hamlet was a Democrat.
Me? No. But the current consensus is that the universe had a beginning, the Big Bang. Perhaps it has an end, perhaps not. The number of atoms in the universe has been estimated. Space itself has expanded since the big bang but has never been infinite.

... geez I’m almost there, boys.

How many monkeys would it take to replicate this study? ;^) I'm doing the joke without checking the replies. I would have had my monkeys check for me, but the horny hairy jerks are having crazy hot monkey you-know-what in another part of the house. If someone actually tries the Shakespeare experiment, they have to remember to keep the monkeys isolated from each other. Thanks nickcarraway.
You have broken the interwebs with your comment. Post of the day LOLOLOL.
Well they’re doing a great job writing Kamala’s speeches.
One came close. He typed “To be or not to be, that is the #fzlw%@@.”
Brave AI response: “Shakespeare’s plays and poems do feature various animal species, such as horses, dogs, cats, and birds, but monkeys are not mentioned. Therefore, the answer to the question ‘are monkeys mentioned in Shakespeare?’ is no.”
Turns out, since he died 400 or so years ago, Shakespeare can’t write monkeys.
