A 4-year-old accidentally knocked over and shattered a 3,500-year-old Bronze Age jar during a visit to the Hecht Museum at the University of Haifa in Israel on Friday.
The museum said the artifact, which is dated from 2200–1500 B.C.E., was designed to store and transport goods, such as olive oil and wine, and was characteristic of the ancient Canaan region. The jar, the museum said in a statement, predated the Biblical kings Solomon and David.
Though similar jars have been discovered in archaeological excavations, many are found in pieces or incomplete, making this jar rare for having been unearthed intact, and for its size.
The child’s father, who was identified only by his first name, Alex, told the BBC that his son was “curious about what was inside” and “pulled the jar slightly,” which tipped it from its stand, shattering it into pieces. Alex added that he was “in shock” and initially believed that his son hadn’t broken the jar.

His parents should be forced to pay for repairs not given free tour.
Note to self: Don’t ever donate any artifacts to the Hecht Museum.
Why would artifacts of this magnitude even be within reach of ANYBODY?........much less a little kid. 🤷 SMH
I wondered the same thing.
Someone at this museum really messed up.

jarring...
anything of that value should be incased, away from a four year old. I doubt this was a malicious act on that poor child... but daddy should have held those hands tight, given the importance of the artifact.
Must have premo insurance. They’ll leave some more out they don’t really care about, but have heavily insured.
Have to take that into account.
Yeah, but at the end of the day though....this is on the museum.
Remember a few years ago they had a chest harness for kids but the loons of the left whined about it and they got pulled off the market.
Never trust the left with anything their crazy period.
The 4-year-old would prefer to stay at home watching Bugs Bunny.
cue Colin Powell and the “Pottery Barn Rule”
so how much does something like that cost?
Well, it’s not like they can’t go out and make some more jars.
Probably wasnt microwave safe anyway...
Forgiving unintended damage to an interesting but not useful item sets a good example of “do unto others”.
Exactly what I was thinking. This is why you child-proof your house when you have a toddler. If you have nice things, the toddler is going to break them if they are within arm’s reach.

At least since that nutjob attacked Michelangelo’s “Pieta” with a hammer (1970s), there’s been no excuse for not protecting artifacts and art.
