I know many folks don't like it when someone creates a thread using a Youtube video as the source, and doesn't give a synopsis about what it's about, but I wanted to post this one because I think it speaks to the times we now live in.
Long and short, he says that when evil takes over, rural living is not much safer then living in the city and he lays out the reasons why. It's a good listen if you got the time. Share your thoughts.
Thanks all.
There are no perfect solutions—but living in urban areas is the maximum dumb move.
Look for a small town in a rural area with a good medical facility. Homogenous. There are hundreds of examples, Houlton Maine being a good one. Expect not to have city amenities.
Bingo!
If you can get to your weapons in time.
“One advantage to the country is that if you successfully defend yourself, and the perp dies in the process, you are more likely to get away w/the shovel and shut up part.”
Maybe. I’d check to see if he had a live cell phone on him and also if there are license plate cameras in the area (or other cameras, such as on neighboring property). The surveillance society we now live in is a sword with many edges in that it helps to track the bad guys (assuming that government is willing to do that), but it can rat out the good guys too.
EVERY THING has pros and cons. There are other factors to consider.
Place your bets.
Nobody lives forever—but being smart is better than being dumb.
:-)
Total crap.
There is an anonymity possible for dangerous individuals that may not be there in rural areas, as well as the relative indifference of urban law enforcement. I much prefer living in an area with an elected Sheriff as CLEO, instead of a political-appointee police Chief.
I have an old (circa 1900) .32 auto that fits nicely in a front pocket. :-)
I'm kind of stuck, but believe me, I agree with those here who say that a rural setting is better than a urban one. I would love to live in a rural setting. I've driven out into the country where I live and I love the small homes and cities and if I could ever move to one, I would, in a heartbeat.
But I posted this thread to just kind of get folks thinking. It's like he said in the video, how many of his prepper friends thought about packing finger nail clippers? A small item, but a very vital need. Dude, I got six of them! And yet, not a single one of his friends thought to pack just one. Stuff to trim hair would also be a good thing to have, cups, plates, utensils, garbage bags, candles, matches, etc, etc.
I’ll take my chances in the country, thank you.
Rural living is arguably worse when things go bad. Especially without mutual support.
Defend what you have and you send a message far and wide that you have something worth defending.
The state bird is the black fly; the state flag is a blue tarp.
That Maine?
Yes, but do not go too rural.
My .357 sits neatly in a chest holster and remains accessible quickly whether wearing a backpack burner, sprayer, brush cutter, or when on my knees weeding. The problem is the extra weight after being bent over all day.
Move to a place where a jury of your peers is truly a jury of your peers.
Good advice. Not more rural than you can handle, anyway. Otherwise the ideal alternative is being a Mountain Man with no neighbors, no services, and no hope. (And there will be, and have been, times when that didn't sound so bad...)
You bet. Small towns and rural areas have thousands of mentally ill homeless, criminal gangs, American hating foreigners, vandals, millions of illegals, stores are being looted by mobs of farmers and church goers, drive by shootings....etc...
So bad I am now considering moving back to a big city.
