This is such a buzz kill.
As it turns out, consuming just one alcoholic beverage per day — whether it be a pint of beer, a glass of wine or a shot of your favorite spirit — can shorten your lifespan by approximately two-and-a-half months, one expert asserts
Dr. Tim Stockwell, of the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research, told Daily Mail that those who drink significantly more alcohol than that — about 35 beverages a week — could slash a staggering two years off their lifespan.
It’s a rude awakening for those who might like to unwind with a glass of pinot after a long day, or who frequent happy hours with friends or colleagues.
“Alcohol is our favorite recreational drug. We use it for pleasure and relaxation, and the last thing we want to hear is that it causes any harm,” he said. “It’s comforting to think that drinking is good for our health, but unfortunately, it’s based on poor science.”
Unfortunately, according to the doc, no amount of alcohol is safe for boozers — and his claims are backed up by science.
Recent research has shown that alcohol consumption could increase the risk of certain health conditions, such as cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, liver disease and more, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

I used to drink a glass of red wine every night before dinner. It caused my blood pressure to go up for quite awhile. ThenI I switched to beer, half a can every night, and my blood pressure is fine. I’m a small woman, so I think a large man could drink at least one can every night.
I come from a family of alcoholics, and they basically hate me for having that glass of beer and quitting.
Baptists who are wound just a little too tight...
“...can shorten your lifespan...”
The keyword is CAN not WILL! Anyone CAN posit a theory about things that can shorten your life. For example, eating too much pizza CAN shorten your life. Or drinking too much coffee CAN shorten your life, or watching MSNBC can shorten your life, etc.
It’s so easy, even the GEICO caveman can do it.
US med schools are funded by pharmaceutical companies in large part and the FDA is mostly made upon pharmaceutical company executives. So what do you expect?
My smart MD went to med school in Nigeria and didn’t tell me to get a vax.

Churchill only made it to 90.
I was 92 years old late last month. This article inspired me to get another bottle of Yuengling, my fourth today. I hope it doesn’t kill me. Usually I stop at three.

I had an old customer for over 50 years, every time someone asked him how he lived so long, he yelled out VODKA!!
That was Kirk Douglas
Hey, that’s just evolution. Survival of the fittest brain cells
Used to watch that 'illegal', backwoods distillery show. Always saw the old, wrinkled expert barking out instructions. I want his lifestyle and Keith Richard's doctor. I'll be all set.
As socialism and totalitarianism take over everyday life more and more, and the insane run the asylum, this could turn out to be a very useful piece of information.
In the past (and probably certain places still today), it was safer to drink an alcoholic drink than the water.
Why must you always beat me to the punchline?
I hate you.
If you mix beer and Mad Dog 20/20, you will wish you died.
Same here! I was adopted at 3 days old away from an alchohalic mother and father. The mother later gave it up and became a Christian. I found out only just last year about my birth father. He died a horrible death of failed liver at age 88. Two birth brothers died of alc but the other siblings are dry Christians. My remaining brother has clean christian kids who are in a world famous pop band. I'm more like you, but definitely touched into the "problem drinker" realm. I'm glad you never had that disposition! It's a nightmare.
