A man riding a dirt bike was shot by an officer with the Philadelphia Police Department's ATV enforcement unit, according to officials.
Just after 3 p.m., uniformed police officers were following a dirt bike rider in North Philadelphia, according to Deputy Commissioner Mike Cram.
The deputy commissioner said that the rider pulled into a gated area once he realized officers were tailing him.
When one of the officers approached the rider at 6th and Somerset streets, the officer explained to the rider that what he was doing was illegal in the city of Philadelphia, Cram explained.
During this conversation, the dirt bike rider showed that he had a gun, Cram said. This is when a second officer discharged his weapon and hit the rider twice.

Need a lot more information than this story is sharing.
As if that has ever happened before. Right factor?
Wow, those are nice bikes. Mine is a Honda and I think sometimes people think it’s just another “dirt bike”. Heck, it’s got a headlight with hi-beam switch, L/R turn signals at the front and rear, a horn, speedometer, passenger foot pegs, etc.
Lol. Nice to see that you have read a few sentences written by a literal blue-haired liberal reporter (she has pics of herself with blue hair on her twitter page) and already judged this to be a bad shooting. I’m sure the author is glad to have accomplished her goal of getting you to side with the inner-city criminals of Philadelphia.
My point, that you ALWAYS seem to miss, is that absolutely nothing can be said for sure from this very short article. Additionally, this reporter is extremely far left. You can believe her if you so desire. I tend to be the guy who questions these types of reports. You must be the other guy.
I simply commented and asked you a question regarding your comment, which you completely evaded. ☺
The author then paints a picture that the cops just started blasting.
Lets try again.
As if that has ever happened before. Right factor?
Right??
I went to the author's twitter page, and it's exactly what you'd expect.
Good to know. The "innocent dirt bike rider in the middle of the city" meme already had me thinking a certain sorta way, but waiting for facts.
Yes, police officers make mistakes and shoot their weapons when they should not.
Do you feel better, kid? Now run along. Adults are talking about events in the world. We don't have time for your nonsense.
Bewhahahaha...Whoops....Sorry, didn't mean to shoot ya 10 times...
Depends.
If he was just informing the officer that he was carrying so he would not get shot then it is not justified.
The police are not allowed to shoot people just because they are carrying.
If he pulled it out and pointed it at the officer, justified.
We don’t really know that from the article. What commands were given? What commands were complied with. What was the attitude/resistance of the perp?
If you’re told to keep your hands on the wheel/in the air, and you reach to the vicinity of a visible firearm, you’re going to be justifiably shot. No cop should have to wait for the perp to execute him.
So if you tell an officer you have a gun means an officer can shoot you?
No citizen should be murdered just because a civil servant is easily frightened. “Officer Safety” is not the root password to the Constitution.
Again, We the People are armed. Our servants need to accustom themselves to that fact, and learn to mind their manners.
During this conversation, the dirt bike rider showed that he had a gun.
Last voluntary acts caused when brain in off mode.
In the meantime, I have been stopped more than once, complied w/officer’s commands, informed them of my firearm & location, and gone home to dinner that night, without being shot.
Most cops just want to go home to dinner as well.
Strictly off-road bikes being ridden by urban street gangs...There’s a telephone or light pole out there somewhere with their name on it.
Thanks for the additional info.
"Unfortunate" one way to describe it. One would hope these fellows with the magical blue suits also had cameras on, so we can find out if their claims match reality.
Yup. The description so far was both lacking in actual details and very strangely worded.
