In the past couple of years I have noticed there is a complete lake of regard for other posters on this site. Not only that but swearing seems to be tolerated. In the past day I have been called gay, a lair, that I am talking out of my *** and I am full of ****. Do we even have to go into the fighting on any thread about Ukraine or Russia. Even hard facts from multiple sources no longer seem to matter. Instead it is whoever can come up with the snarkiest reply.
I have seen some significant racism posted here particularly in the past few years.
I am of much the same persuasion as you towards Humblegunner. I agreed with his point of view on blog pimpers, though I wouldn’t have approached it the same way.
From reading of people who know him personally, I fully accept Humblegunner is likely not who he appeared to be in this forum on occasion.
I think he got angry about it, and became unlikeable to many in the process, even those who might have agreed with him.
I got the distinct impression he needed a break from FR, and I hope he is doing well, I really do. Because from what I have heard, in person, he sounds like my kind of people. But on here...he occasionally wasn’t that.
If you’re out there Humblegunner, I say hello and wish you all the best.
Because you can find the video online that shows the entire event and he was sitting down. Find it yourself. I sm no longer going to the trouble le of posting utubes and Twitter links to get hit with a backwash of self righteousness I am too pure to go THERE posts.

When the Trolls started showing up in mass, during the Q Revolution, I would search their post history and find 10 year gaps, then suddenly, they were posting like 30-40 times each day.
Free Republic is not the same place it was 20 years ago, but I still find more useful political information and commentary here than I find any other place on the Web.
I also contribute generously every month now.

Personally I think this site needs to go private with fee. Every other site I go to is one to 300 a year.

Yes, things have gone downhill somewhat but it is what we have so that we have to live with it.

Like the song, it never really happened that way. As soon as someone tries to have that type of conversation someone always shows up to insert the official counter narrative that they were paid to project.
Our memories of the old days always tend to bury the unpleasant and magnify what we enjoy.

Back when Tony Snow, Mark Levin, Barbara Olson, etc., were on FR it was more cerebral and less childish.
They would now be denigrated as establishment elites. If you're not throwing bombs and shouting down anyone who isn't 100% MAGA, you're a Democratic plant.
So...that's soon all that will be left, which is how most of them seem to want it.
The only threads I have really seen any are on the Ukraine vs Russia threads. Being of Southern Polish descent I want them both to lose. But especially want Russia to lose.
We moved to the right since then.
But I think that's the direction of the Republican Party, or at least the grassroots.
Even today, the Republican Party is unable to reach consensus on some issues, especially on the Russo-Ukrainian War.
