Are you a pickle connoisseur? If so, extreme weather in Mexico may be impacting the availability of the snack in the U.S.
Every year, Americans consume more than 20 billion pickles, but recently, consumers have noticed some restaurants warning of a "national pickle shortage."
The warnings from restaurants such as Firehouse Subs, local delis and others are generally bona fide, as both the U.S. Department of Agriculture and experts from North Carolina State University say that the combination of reliance on imports and extreme weather could impact supplies.

Is there a particular recipe you use? I’m a fan of Grillos pickles but they’re so darned expensive. Seems like DIY might be worth trying.

What I want to know is what is causing the shortage on peanuts? I dont mean jumbo peanuts, you can get them anywhere but Valencia peanuts cant be had anywhere.
“Yet California has an excellent climate for growing tomatoes.”
Yes it does, and they do grow them. Just not that much in southern California. You’re just looking ion the wrong place.
13 million tones of tomatoes are grown in the central valley every year; it is a business worth about $1.5 billion annually! California produces between 90-95% of the processing tomatoes used in the United States and 1/3 of the world’s processed tomato products. During the summer a steady stream of trucks transport tomatoes north on Interstate ‘5’, from areas like Yolo county, to plants close to Modesto, Lodi, Stockton and Sacramento in Northern California. Every day ½ million tons of tomatoes are processed in these northern Central Valley’s plants, producing goods such as canned tomatoes, pizza sauce, ketchup and salsa. And there is an abundance of tomatoes in the supermarkets for your eating pleasure.

Someone on another thread called Mick Jagger a pickle smoocher. Maybe he’s responsible.

Props! Do you ferment your pickles or use vinegar? Just wondering.
Gotta grow them cukes some where.
Therefore give up freedom and prosperity forever and let a cabal of mass murderers regulate f**king everything.
Or no pickles for you. Well at least not Mexican pickles.
Right?
“Weather”? Hun?
We all know it’s due to the climate changing. Fox News is slipping…at least in the excerpt.
Those pickles are being eaten from Oregon to Nova Scotia!
If your pickle suffers from a shortage, well, that’s not a good thing.
99% vinegar. However I do ferment some as my cuz prefers. And I use fermentation then switch out the liquid with vodka, for vodka dill pickles.
Grillos Pickles are usually sold in a small plastic bucket.
The lid on that plastic bucket was so difficult for me to pry off, I just never bought that brand again. I had to use a flathead screwdriver to open the container. They should consider a simpler lid that looks the same, but screws on tight. Packaging design problem.
I grew the small pickling cukes...I though they’d never stop giving. Love cukes with sour cream and onions.
The San Joaquin Valley is within easy driving distance from here, but I see very few, if any, tomatoes from there in the supermarket. I read the labels as to where they are from, and even high-end markets like Whole Foods get most of their tomatoes from Mexico—even exotic varieties like heirloom tomatoes.
I agree. Have to cut the spear up to put on the burger.
How, dear Lord, will we survive this plague?
Scroll down to the tomatoes section and watch the 3 minute video. About the pizza
Did you break off the plastic tab? Once you’ve done that I find the lid to be pretty manageable. The tab is there to lock the lid during shipping.
Maybe the Grillos people are upholding the ancient tradition of pickle containers being hard to open?

Sounds like an excuse for another Biden Executive Order to limit your rights about, well something.
