Why can’t Israel borrow for their own defense? Why must our grandchildren borrow and pay for it?
Vanity ^ | 4/21/24 | hardspunned

Israel has a national debt of $310 Billion owed by its 9.6 million citizens. Individually, each Israeli citizen’s share is $32,291. The U.S. has a national debt of $34 Trillion owed by 334 million citizens. Individually, each U.S. citizen’s share is $101,796. All politics aside, why am I, you, each of our children and grandchildren borrowing money to give to Israel when each of us already carries a debt burden three times that of each Israeli citizen?

Yes, there is a pandemic of evil sweeping the world. The evil is the bankrupting of American citizens by continuous foreign spending of money we don’t have to enrich a select few. Your post allows me to see that the evil has already consumed you.

While we disagree about virtually everything, this is a legitimate question.

Israel does pony up a huge fraction of their GDP for defense.

But still, each country (Ukraine, Europe, Taiwan, New Zealand, etc.) needs to be independently capable of defending themselves.

This military welfarism must stop.

Not being in love with governments, even Israel’s, which is as far from perfect as our current one, does not make a person evil. It makes them wise.

Criticism of Israel’s government is not hate for Jews any more than criticizing the US government is hate for the American people.

I don’t think God expects us to bow to any government and shield it from criticism.

“Our much larger problems have to do with wasteful military spending (they cannot pass a simple audit.”

Because there are actually no accountability records to even audit. Credited funds we pass are disbursed out from the IMF directly to the receiving awardees. Only the IMF has any records of where it actually went. And as a private organization there is no legal way to ever get these records.

The appropriations listed in a funding bill in no way reflects accuracy of where it actually went out from the IMF. It is the perfect situation for “bait and switch” that can never be investigated or proven even if we tried.

Politics aside, how do you explain that this argument is made regards Israel, 26 billion in the next aid package, and not Ukraine with 60 billion in this aid package?

How do we explain questioning aid to a nation where we actually have 3 formal defense agreements and a SOFA, but not one where we owe nothing?

How do we we explain questioning aid to a nation that actually was attacked on October 7 in what was an “unprovoked” act. But not in a war where we did antagonize the situation massively with our NATO East expansion, withdrawal from the ballistic missile treaty, stomping all over Russian aligned and allied nations (Iraq, Syria, Libya, Venezuela)???

How do you explain being worried about all this spending now, when we were throwing even more money at Ukraine in the begining the war in 2022 and 2023, in fact, people we’re bragging about it?

Sometimes, the mere questions asked, are intentionally meant to lead people in a certain direction. While I do not disagree with the question posed, it is funny that it is regards exactly that nation where if you want to construct a (moral/just war) argument for foreign military assistance, they would be it.

I tend to think that we are over extended and wasting our national wealth in what is trying to maintain an empire. But, I find it ironic that we only begin questioning the spending with Israel, which has shown a willingness to compromise in the past, which has elections and actually is a democracy and all those things we pretended Ukraine to be (which they are not).

Now suddenly America discovers the idea that maybe we need to control our debt, worry about our own problems, that in war you always get innocent victims and horrible mishaps.

Could it be, that when you censor all major Russian media, 40 of them, but have the Arab and Muslim voice very much so represented in western MSM, that this impacts perceptions?

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/4/21/us-house-passes-almost-100-billion-in-aid-for-ukraine-israel-what (glad that now how much we’re spending on war is a concern)

Isn’t it funny that even now, although 2/3rds of our aid goes to Ukraine, it’s the 1/3 to Israel we’re focusing on?

Where do you think more people died, Ukraine or Gaza?

Where do you think the world economy was impacted more, Ukraine or Gaza?

Perceptions in the West today are merely based on economic and political interests, which also control the MSM and big tech.

The Arabs have a huge media presence of their own. They are also very much so represented in the US and European MSM itself. Nations like Egypt, UAE, Jordan, Saudi Arabia are economically more important to us than Israel and they also carry a substantial clout in DC. The demographics are shifting and today you have a Muslim and Arab population in the US which is already impacting elections. Could it be, that perceptions and even what questions we ask, is highly dependent on the influence of the folks we’re talking about?

Albert Pike, 1871 - With the support of the other nations, the political leaders of Israel and the Islamic world will conduct a war in such a way that they mutually destroy each other. The other nations will be constrained to fight to the point of complete physical, moral, spiritual and economical exhaustion. Then we shall unleash the nihilists and the atheistic communists who’ve been restrained and held in check since WWII, and we shall provoke a formidable, final social cataclysm.

“ Thanks for the input, Karen. Go ahead and parse away. That aside, doesn’t it bother you that we are borrowing for Israel, Taiwan, the Euroweenies, everybody, when their debt ratios are much better than ours?”

Whatever the you’re babbling about here calling people names it doesn’t explain this ‘why can’t Israel borrow for their own defense?’

They are borrowing for their own defense

I would not pick on Israel in particular but would ask more broadly why can’t every nation borrow for its own defense?

I understand coming to the aid of allies and could be persuaded if we had the money and it was demonstrably in our own interest but once we are broke I would not come to anyone’s aid with our debt.

In reality, foreign assistance typically makes up less than 1% of the trillions of dollars in federal spending. Yet there is something about Israel that triggers certain men.

Irrational, eternal, antisemitic hatred of Israel is the pandemic of evil, and all those consumed with it shall perish eternally.

Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

He wasn’t “pretending” anything - he asked a simple question.

Isreal-firsters don’t like simple questions about our children’s futures needlessly chained to mideast shitholes.

Some of us don’t want Israel’s enemies for our kids.

The IMF does not disburse US Military Budget items. The IMF would distribute payments to…wait for it..the IMF.

One of the problems I am seeing with this “outrage” about foreign payments in general is that its such a small part of our spending problems. But “conservatives” around here would not tolerate significant changes to the largest expenses in our budgets. Instead, they get “anxious” about very small payments.

It is a lot of “high valence” “red meat” word BS that is excercised by both sides of the aisle. It takes away the attention on the things that matter much more.

I did process review for large service companies. I would go into an operation and see this all of the time. Root causes were not being examined. Internal Politics drove operational issues. Local management would focus on things that cost a penny and ignore the dollars flying out the doors.

How the IMF distributes aid to poor countries is not a big financial deal. How we collect and spend Social Security dollars IS a big deal. How we spend defense dollars without accountability is a BIG deal. Medicare is a BIG deal.

Based on my experience, finding 10% cost savings in any of those areas is not only likely, with a bit of effort…it could be half again as much.

Our systems have become messed up because of fiat money.

The Federal Reserve can conjure money up and lend it to the federal government at say 3% even with say 7% inflation.

The real cost of federal borrowing then is negative 4%. The government tempted with money that can be obtained without cost ‘borrows’ enormous amounts of it.

The people being shortchanged are American’s older, modest income folks that can’t afford to gamble on overpriced stocks but have to buy 5% CDs in the face of 7% inflation.

Older politicians like Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi know they will never suffer a negative consequence for borrowing and spending in their lifetimes, so they borrow and spend wildly.

One of the things needed to be done is to put the House of Representatives on a four-year election cycle two years offset from the presidency so “representatives” feel less need to buy votes at every possible opportunity.

We just dropped another $100 TRILLION in foreign "assistance" (lol) - that's not 1% anything. Learn math - idiot.

Yet there is something about Israel that triggers certain men.

What triggers FR's Israel-firsters is asking simple questions - like why our kids get to inherit all the enemies Israel made for them.

Quit s**tposting.
