Songs for The Total Eclipse - what's yours?
UCR ^ | 4/1/2024 | Allison Rapp

On April 8, for precisely four minutes and 27 seconds, the moon will pass in front of the sun blocking out all light — a total solar eclipse.

The last time this kind of galactic display occurred was in 2017, and although eclipses like this do happen once every 18 months or so, they're usually not visible to people on land.

Of course, what would a global scientific wonder be without an appropriate accompanying playlist? Below, we've laid out 30 Eclipse Songs to jam out to while the moon does its thing.

True. Mann recorded it years before Bruce did, but Bruce wrote it.

“Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart”

Best suggestion. For chuckles, click on the “literal” version of the over the top video (NSFW)

The companion song would be:

The Police - Walking On The Moon

Okay it, only tangentially, has to do with the eclipse but I like it anyway: “Blue Moon” by the Marcels!

Carly Simon’s hit YOU’RE SO VAIN has a line about going to Saratoga to view the Total Eclipse of the Sun.

Saratoga is probably for the Travers race, Nova Scotia for the total eclipse of the sun.

My personal opinion! It was a horrible show. While it was appropriate to remember Toby Keith very few of the singers were appropriate to his songs. The inclusion of Hollywood people and TV personalities was totally inappropriate. Why must these people constantly inject themselves into areas where they are unneeded and definately not appreciated? Most of the music wasn’t CW, CW needs to leave Austin and Nashville and find itself! Just a sad spectacle.

“Eclipse” by Pink Floyd hands down.

...
And everything under the sun is in tune,
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

We traveled to a friends house about 6 hours west. He’s a mile from dead center in Ohio. Cloudy now but sunshine is coming.

All of our kids except one drove in two along with a couple others.

We saw the 2017 eclipse and decided then we weren’t missing this one. It’s a really cool heavenly show.
